Island most like St. John

My husband & I are just back from our 2nd wonderful stay on St. John, USVI.

We LOVE the off shore beach snorkeling, the many, varied beautiful beaches & the lush greenery.

We are debating trying to find a different Caribbean location for a week's vacation next April. Know that we would love St. John, again - but, wonder if we should "be brave" and give another location a try.

Again, beautiful beaches (with some shade available), off shore snorkeling & maybe some interesting island culture or places of interest would be nice.

Would welcome any & all suggestions!

Thank you!

Sue,

I love St John also.We have traveled to St John,Aruba,Grand Cayman and Kaua'i,Hawaii.

Of these places we love GC (for snorkeling and activities),St John (for the same reasons as you) and Kaua'i (for everything).

We also live on the East Coast..(I assume that MA is for Massachussetts). If you could ever swing going to Kaua'i...I would definitely go for it.It is one beautiful place!

Look at Virgin Gorda - similar in topography and lushness, wonderful uncrowded beaches many with very good to excellent off-beach snorkeling, many different dining options, calm bright torquoise blue waters. In short one of the all around perfect islands.

My first thought also - Virgin Gorda.

Provo in the TCI and Anguilla have wonderful beaches. Anguilla has great restaurants but neither are like St. John in topography nor have the lush pristine green hills and twisty turny roads of St. John. Aruba has beaches but it is at the far opposite end of spectrum as it feels like an Americanized manufactured destination and the lush green you see is the manicured plots around the resorts not the pristine Nat'l Park lands that are St. John. For me Aruba had neither "Caribbean soul" nor feel!

Virgin Gorda still remains one of my favorite all-around Caribb destinations and with its many villas, good restaurants, luxury resorts and some more modest ones that are lacking on St. John. Growth has not been as rampant nor does the island seem as busy as St. John is now.
