island hop
My husband and I are interested in a quiet 4 days on island. We want to keep our plane trip from PHiladelphia as short as possible but still enjoy the caribbean flavor. Which island do you suggest,we are 60ish.

Puerto Rico USVI

With only 4 days you should try to find an island you can reach non-stop in the least amount of time from Philadelphia. Puerto Rico is a good choice since there are several airlines offering non-stop flights from Philly. You can pick a resort that is outside (by yet not too far)the city of San Juan and get all the peace and quiet you could ever want.

If you really want quiet, go to the Cayman Kai area of Grand Cayman and stay at the Sea Lodges. It is off the beaten path of tourism. (Added bonus, GC is easy to get to.)
While there are several sea lodges in the complex, we find that we usually have the beach almost to ourselves. The complex is not fancy but the lodges are individually owned and we have found them to be pretty, clean, safe, and just wonderful. The others we have dealt with are very friendly and great. We keep going back to stay there because it is like having our own piece of heaven in GC. Plus, the reef is right offshore and we have found it to be the best place to snorkel of anywhere we have gone. It is a short 10 minute walk along the beach to Rum Point, there are additional restaurants in close driving area, and a neat little native grocery store a short drive away. To check out a couple of the lodges, goto http://www.sealodgical.com/ or http://www.caymanhaven.com/#reservations |
Correction: "The others we have dealt with are very friendly and great." should have said "The owners...."

The GC lodging looked wonderful, but we are not snorkeling. No pools to swim in? Now I worry about the rays and safety swimming in the water there.

No pool there. Have NEVER worried about the rays and the safety there. The rays do not get near people.
