Island getaway

Hello all! Here's the scenario... two adults 49 him and 46 me, needing to get away from teenagers who think they know it all!! We have decided to let them figure it out alone while we bask in the sunshine along a white sand beach with cocktails in hand. We are trying to find that perfect getaway. I scuba dive, windsurf and kayak. He is afraid of water... funny match huh? No matter.. we would love some help finding a place we both would love. Couples in Negril? Someplace in the Bahamas?
Please help!! Someone point us in the right direction.. I am getting tired of looking at pages and pages of places to go.. I want referrals from people who have really been there! Can we borrow your PARADISE???
Travel dates are April 09 (I am a teacher..only time to go...ugh)

THanks in advance for your help.
Mari and Tony

Hi Mari and Tony
Turks and Caicos sounds like it would fit. Plenty of white sandy beach, Great Diving, kayaks at most resorts, and windsurfing. It's a great place to unwind, and relax.
While your out doing your water sports your husband can sit on the beach with a frosty beverage of choice, and slowly get put in the "Turks Trance" by staring out at the different colors of turquoise that they call Grace Bay. Where will you be flying from?

I second Turks and Caicos, sounds like it fits both of you!

Some resorts have service ON the beach, so major plus. Add one of the best beaches in the world, kayaks at all the resorts (and Hobie Cats) scuba/snorkel on the Third largest reef in the world.

Resorts with beach service: The Sands Resort, The Regent Palms, The Somerset, Grace Bay Club, Windsong to name a few. Somerset just recently added buckets of beer on the beach-living a real "Corona" commercial. (of course, you can order other cocktails too.)

I have to suggest Turks and Caicos as well. Best place by far that I have been in the Caribbean. It is obvious why Grace Bay is one of the best beaches in the world. The perfect place for couples and to just relax. We stayed at the Regent Palms...I can't wait to go back. The best resort I think I have ever stayed. They do have beach service...and they are on top of it! I never was empty on a drink before they came around. Also, plenty of water sports and things to do for you. Let me see if I can find some pictures and I'll post here...

Hi again!

I am new at working these message boards so bear with me! I posted another plea because I couldn't find my first one!! LOL what a blonde!
Anyway, Thanks for your replies! I am excited that I have one place to check into, more focus to my search! Carolinagirl81, your photos help a lot! I love the calm waters and that beautiful blue!!! I should have been a fish!

We will be departing from either Chicago, South Bend or Grand Rapids. Leaving April 4th. Never coming back?
Our budget isn't too limiting so I will be cheking into all resorts listed above!
Any more info would be greatly appreciated! Places of interest to explore? Heck I am not even exactly sure where Turks and Caicos is? Google Earth I guess is next!

Happy New Year to all!

to turksoldtimer, what can one expect to pay for typical dinners, drinks at the midpriced hotels. looking for a trip also, for husband and me, was thinking all inclusive in either jamaica or mexico, but T&C looks nice, could get reasonable flight from Boston, wondering what to expect to spend for food and drinks. Also, dont really want to cook while on vacation. thanks

turksoldtimer Dec 31st, 2008 09:55 AM

check out the dining guide.
www.wherewhenhow.tc for pricing.
there are also some restaurants that run specials like the Tiki Hut on Wednesday nights they have chicken and rib night for $12.95 and at Calico Jacks on Mondays has all you can eat spagetti for around the same price.
The Orchid at the Alexandra resort has been running a special $60 per couple dinner and a bottle of wine, they also have Caribbean night on Mondays w/ entertainment for $25 pp all you can eat.
Sometimes tax and tip are included in the bill so check that out before paying. The Salt Mills Diner is a very reasonable place to eat. They have great breakfast also Hemingways at the Sands resort
Hope this helps
