Isla Verde

Is this a nice beach? Are their restaraunts to walk to where I don't need a car? Is there a casino in Isla Verde?

The beach is about a mile long.

There are casinos in the El San Juan Hotel, The Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casion, at the Intercontinental, the Sheraton, The Ritz Carlton, to name a few.

You didn't say where you are staying so we can't give you specifics but there are lots of restaurants on Isla Verde and many are within walking distance of numerous hotels. Those that are too far to walk are easily accessible by bus or taxi so you don't need a car to go out to eat.

I'm staying at the Marriott Courtyard. Please advise.

Define what you are looking for in a nice beach.

Courtyard by Marriott - on a decent beach but it is NOT the main beach on Isla Verde (which is about a mile away). Not much within walking distance of that hotel since it is far removed from the main Isla Verde area.

You've pick the hotel that is furthest from everything!

You'd be much better off at the El San Juan, Intercontinental or Ritz Carlton, if you want beachfront. If you don't mind being a few blocks from the beach look at Embassy Suites or Hampton Inn & Suites. All those are in the "heart" of Isla Verde.

Courtyard Marriott is on the Ritz Carlton side of Isla Verde beach. It is a long beach but it is split in two sections. One one side is El San Juan and the Intercontinental (along with many condos). The other side is the Ritz Carlton and, further down, the Courtyard Marriott. The two sections are split by an outcropping of rocks. It is still a nice stretch of beach but I should warn you that the Courtyard Marriott is practically on the airport's runway. So you will hear (and see) planes taking off and landing. Other than that, it is a wide beach, good for strolling. The water is usually fairly calm and pretty clear. The sand is brown. It is not a white sand, crystal blue water beach because it is on the Atlantic, not the Caribbean.

I believe the Courtyard does have a small casino (but I could be mistaken about that). Like RoamsAround said, there are a number of casinos in Isla Verde. The closest casino to the Courtyard Marriott would probably be at the Ritz Carlton, which also is one of the nicest casinos in San Juan.

There are some restaurants within walking distance. Much, but by no means all, of the dining in Isla Verde is centered at the hotels. There are a number of good restaurants at El San Juan and the Ritz Carlton (they are pricey). While I usually dine at the hotel restaurants when in Isla Verde, I always talk a walk to the Metropol, which is a family type restaurant that serves Puerto Rican/Cuban cuisine. It is very reasonable and usually good (my last time was a disappointment but I have been there well over 10 times and most of those times the food has been really good).
