Is there a new (cheaper!) St. Barths?
 

I used to go there when I was younger, but haven't been able to afford it for years! Does anyone think he or she has discovered a "new" st. Barths? i.e. a not-too-crowded place that is not over-developed, has beautiful beaches, but also has good food? Interested to hear all of your wonderful ideas. -A

I'm afraid a "new" St Barts isn't possible. You would have to recreate 300+years of history to get the culture that keeps the island so special.

Please note that we have only booked our trip for this June and have not been to St. Barth before.....We found Hotel Emeraude Plage that seems reasonable for summer travel, which is the only time that I can travel. The website and reviews on other sites seem to be positive. I am a little nervous about the price of things since we are going to 2 other islands before getting there. My motto: ya can't take it with you and you only live once!8-)

Try Harbour Island off of Elutherea. Some say it represents St Barts 20 years ago. We went last May and had a great time. We rented a house on the beach for $1,000 for the week and went to the various restaurants for lunch and dinner. You get around in golf carts since the island is so small.

Resorts - Pink Sands, Coral Sands, RockHouse, Runaway Hill and a few others I can't think of.

Tho not 'undiscovered', but still largely unknown in the States, BUZIOS,
about 3 hours north of Rio; ANGRA DOS REIS, south of Sao Paolo; OLINDA south of Bahia -- and the Fernando dos Roches national park off the north coast and the Recife area would bring you the same spirit, vibe, if not French,
Brazilian. Bardot 'discovered' Buzios in the 60s and it's been a hip hangout
for some time, but few US visitors.

Sorry, Olinda is north of Bahia.

Isle de Re and Porquerolles, both small and fairly undiscovered islands off
coasts of France, would also suit, in summer season. Would also recommend
the Isles des Saintes and Marie Galante in the Caribbean.
