Is the water in Isle Verde Puerto Rico turquiose? Also, is it safe to rent a car & drive around?

Is the water in Isle Verde Puerto Rico turquiose? Also, is it safe to rent a car & drive around?
Puerto Rico, or I should say Isle Verde is facing the Atlantic ocean side...not the carribbean side. Therefore, is the water not that pretty turquiose blue that you see in other islands?<BR><BR>Also, is it safe to rent a car and drive around to the El Yunque and Old San Juan? Only planning on doing day time driving. <BR><BR>Please advice.<BR><BR>Thanks

Water off the beach in Isla Verde is not a turquiose blue. It is safe renting and driving a car. Just be prepared for some aggresive drivers. Driving to El YUnque can be very scenic if you take rt. 187 from Isla Verde through Pinones and Loiza Aldea. 187 will bring you back to rt 3, the major highway out of San Juan. If you drive to OSJ put the car in the parking garage near the entrance to OSJ. Streets are narrow and always crowded.

What a bummer...I was hoping to visit an island that had a little bit of history, but also had pretty water.<BR><BR>If I want brown water...I may as well stay in Florida.<BR><BR>Thanks.<BR><BR>Please don't take offense. We were looking for a spot that has the pretty carribbean water.<BR><BR>Thanks.

Isla Verde's beaches are much wider and, in my opinion, nicer than those in the Condado area of San Juan. The ocean is quite rough, however.<BR>I've driven all over the island of PR many, many times and it is quite safe, but you must drive like a New Yorker in order to survive. Especially during rush hours. A three lane highway quickly becomes six lanes when traffic backs up. I love Ponce and Mayaguez. Much more peaceful and less traffic.

Tif, we just returned from Puerto Rico and had the best vacation. Lots of history, culture, great restaurants, shopping & clubs. Also, my husband enjoyed golfing and the casinos. My favorites were Luquillo beach and the Yunque rain forest. Great art galleries, old churches and forts. Gorgeous mountain views. We rented a car and drove to Ponce to see their Fine Arts museum which had beautiful paintings. And, we stayed at the Ponce Hilton overnight. We took tons of photos, did the tourist thing quite well, & had a blast.
