Is October considered as a hurricane season in Grenadines, Canouan island?
When is the best month to go to Grenadines, Canouna island? Our anniversary is in October and we are planning to visit. However, if June or July would be better then we can change the date. Thank you.

Hurricane season reaches its height the first week in September and goes down from there.
We began traveling in October after getting hit several times over Labor Day and have not had a problem since. Canouan is very far South, and the longer you wait past the first part of Sept. the less chance you'll have a problem. BUT, to be sure, if you can go in June or July, you will miss it altogether and still be able to take advantage of the great off-season rates. |
Sanda...I read somewhere that the Grenadines are really too far south to be hit by hurricanes. You never really hear about them going that far south.

The Grenadines have been hit by hurricanes over the years - it's just not common.
The only islands in the Caribbean that are almost guaranteed not to be hit are the ABC's, but there's a first time for everything. |
Here are three helpful sites.
Two show the frequency of hurricanes by island: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/G12.html http://www.stormcarib.com/climatology/freq.htm The other shows frequency by month of the year: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/G1.html Yes, the Grenadines do get hit by hurricanes (like all Caribbean islands), but the frequency is low. |
