In regards to the presence of armed police...it truly is an issue that is relative to your own fears and tolerance and your own sensibilites.
We have traveled around Europe and seen heavily armed riot police in Paris and Rome and Florence as a result of stumbling across large demonstrations we knew nothing about. Oddly we never felt threatened.
If you were in Denver during the Democratic National Convention this last summer you would have seen hundreds of police brandishing their machine guns everywhere in the downtown area. There were thousands of armed police there. There was a major military presence right in Denver for the entire week and oddly I never felt threatened by it.

Been to Jamiaca a dozen times..never have seen "armed" guards. Thought mexico was much worse. Turks and Caicos is a very nice place, but not as lush and green as Jamiaca. I LOVE THAT ISLAND!!!! Beaches Negril is a great family place, but it can be expensive. Beaches Sandy Bay in Negril is a little bit less expensive. Turks/Cacicos and Grand Cayman are VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!
