Is it too cold in the Bahamas in late December?

Help fellow fodorites. A trip to the Bahamas was the cheapest fare I could find from NY for the New Year. I checked weatherbase.com and the ave. temp was 73 degrees but what about the water temp.? Is it too cold to swim? We are beachlovers so this is important to us. Please advise.

Here is a sight you can ck past Dec temp's. www.weathersite.com/Ban-Islan.html

Weather can get a bit chilly. OK to sit in the sun but can be too cold to go in the water. Really depends and hard to predict. But, if beaching it is definitely in your plans go to the Caribbean as opposed to the Bahamas.

Agree with Gail.
We went in late November once and it was quite cool.
We had to buy sweatshirts to wear around during the day, and wear very heavy wetsuits to dive (and still got cold!)

Thanks for the replies. I guess I would put aside going to the Bahamas some other time.
