Is it safe to walk at night on Grand Cayman?

Getting in in the early evening in April. Staying at a cottage and want to head to the grocery store that night to stock up to avoid wasting precious daylight hours. The grocery is only a few blocks away from our cottage. Is it safe for a man and woman to walk at night?

You probably need to ask someone who has been there more recently, but I've been there twice (12 years ago and 7 years ago) and thought it was very safe. We stayed on 7-mile beach both times and had no problems walking around at night. Like everywhere, there are surely some places on the island that are safer than others, but my experience was great. I would not hesitate to walk at night on GC.

We were there in May 2002 and it was still perfectly fine. Don't worry!

My husband, daughter and I just got back from Cayman in Februaru 2003. It was our 30th trip and my daughter(who is 4) 8th trip. Walking anywhere on Seven Mile Beach or West Bay Road is TOTALLY safe! If you want more info, just holler!

Cindy:

Thanks a lot of posting (everyone else, too, of course!!)!! 30 times to GC?! You must love it! I was told by someone else that West Bay may not be a good area to walk at night. Have you ever stayed in that area? Last time we were there (3 years ago) we had a car, so didn't have to hoof it. Feeling a bit nervous this time, I guess. Any other info you could give me would be great.

Of course no place is totally crime free. But, having been there over a dozen times in the past 7 years, I have not found anyplace I could not walk and feel safe! However, depending upon how hot it is, and how far away you are from the store-you may want to drive.

Tia,
My parents spend 16-20 weeks a year on Seven Mile Beach, so the price is totally right for our 2 yearly vacations there. We have always had a car, because my parents are too old to walk from Foster's with groceries. I'll be happy to answer any questions I can!
