Is Grand Cayman a safe island?

My husband and I would like to go to Grand Cayman. We have a 4 year old. Is this a safe island for a small child? We would be staying in a condo. Are hotels better? I am a slightly overprotective mom :) who worries and justs wants to be sure that my daughter is in a safe place. Does anyone have any thoughts?

The Cayman Islands, along with Turks and Caicos, Bermuda, The British Virgin Islands, St. Barths, Anguilla, St. John, Grenada, and the Grenadines are among the Caribbean and near Caribbean islands where tourists are least likely to be impacted by crime of any kind. However, crime can happen anywhere and there is no perfectly crime free Shangri-La.

If you are planning on staying along Seven Mile Beach, a condo located in the central or northern sections of beach will provide more room and amenities than a hotel, with about the same amount of safety. Grand Cayman caters to families and many attractions geared towards them.

When my kids were your daughter's age, I took them to Grand Cayman almost every February. Unless things have changed radically, I still consider it one of the safest of all of the Caribbean islands.

I took my 3 year old there 2 years ago and wouldn't hesitate to again. never felt in the least bit unsafe. we walked to restaurants and along the beach at night.

Totally safe.

There is NO destination that is totally safe. Unfortunately there was recently a report of a tourist being robbed along West Bay Rd in the heart of Seven Mile Beach.

While this reader questions the veracity of the incident as reported to police, it should be left up to individual readers to determine the credence of such a report.

The crime plague that has been troubling many formerly "crime free" (no place is crime free I know of) has expanded its reach to Grand Cayman. An armed man attempted to rob a hotel on Seven Mile Beach in the heart of the tourist area.

This doesn't change my perception of the safety of the island, but should serve as a cautionary reminder for anyone who leaves their sense of safety and precaution at home when on vacation.

We have been 3 times and always felt safe. Just remember the advice being as cautious on vacation as you would at home. We don't walk up and down the streets late at night, don't drink and drive, keep our doors locked etc.

The amount of crime in the Cayman Islands is low compared to many of the surrounding islands. Violence against tourists is very rare. Unfortunately, if you leave valuable objects unattended, like a camera or computer, they could be stolen just like home.

I am sold on Grand Cayman for families looking for a safe vaca in the Caribbean! We have been going every winter with our son for the past 3 years (he's 4 now). Love it, can't recommend it highly enough. Things on our typical agenda are the pirate cruise and the turtle farm for sure :-) Have fun.

We went to GC in June two years ago with our teenagers and another family and found it very safe. I would return in a heartbeat. I am sure there is crime on every island, but we walked home on the beach from different restaurants every night with lots of other families. I would recommend it. We stayed at the Marriott, but there are many condos to stay at.
