Insider Tips on Barbados

Just got back from 2 weeks in Barbados -- our 17th trip. I've compiled an updated "tips for travelers" and anyone wanting this information can write me at:
[email protected] and I'll send it along.

If you have specific questions also, please feel free to direct them to me and I'll try to supply the answers.

It's a wonderful island.

Hi Lois,

I'd love to see you post your "tips" on this thread...

We travel to Barbados often, and I'd enjoy to read your ideas...

Hi Makai1

The reason I don't post them here is that it's extremely lengthy (about 8 printed pages). I'd be happy to answer specific questions, or if you want to e-mail me I can send the sheet back to you.

Hi Lois,
We have 2 kids (12 & 9.)
We've taken them to St. John's twice
(They loved the large pool at the Weston)and to Grenada for a
"non-Disney" experience.
Any thoughts on Barbados w/ kids?
And your tips are most welcome to
[email protected]
Regards,
Pete

If it's not too late, please send me your tips.
If one was to have saved up flight points and had a free flight to Barbados, is there any reasonably priced hotel that is available without a hotel/flight package?

Lois, We are planning our first trip to Barbados the end of January. I would really enjoy reading your "tips for travelers." We like to stay active (including some golf), and we enjoy historical and cultural sites. Thanks. Betsy

Lois,
I am considering renting a villa instead of a room at an all-inclusive for a week in the summer. My children are 24, 27 and 17. The reason is the cost. Do you think we will pay the same anyway because of the high cost of buying food to cook ourselves and the high cost of drinking for the 24, and 27 year old?
I would also like your tips sent to me
at [email protected]
Thank you, Lesley

Hi Lesley,

I think a villa is a great way to go. The cost of buying food versus eating out is much less. The quality you get at all-inclusives is not that great and you are charged quite a bit for it even tho it's included in the room rate per person.

We were fortunate and had a great cook at our villa, but we mainly used her for breakfasts as we wanted to enjoy the wonderful restaurants that Barbados has. There are all price ranges.

Regarding drinking, based on the ages I'm assuming you mean hard liquor. Rum is very inexpensive there so hopefully it would be rum-based drinks. Beer is not very costly either. Wine does run quite a bit.

But at a villa usually the accommodations are more plush, you may have your own pool and then the plus of the staff. Of course, at the end of the week, you give a nice-sized tip to the staff.

I'll send you my tips.

Lois
