info on allegro resport-turks & caicos

We are planning vacation in February and the Allegro resort at turks and caicos has been highly recommended by our agent. Anyone with first hand knowledge? Pictures? thanks

Allegro and Sands are just about the same....both close to each other on Grace Bay, both loud, all inclusive, everything in your lap resorts. Grace Bay is just incredible, plenty of beach made of powdery white sand. Allegro has the only Casino on the island, but probably isn't as nice as Sands or even Club Med. I don't know why anyone would stay at one of these places, but then again, everything is done for you, and if that floats your boat, then its great.

Steve:
My husband & I were at the Allegro in July and I have a 7 page trip report. IF you would like a copy of it, just e-mail me and I'll be more than happy to send it to you.

Stayed at Allegro in May/June. The resort wasn't bad. I thought it was a little too large for my tatse, too many people jammed around the pool in chairs, fighting for shade. I did hear they have added more unbrellas since we were there so it might not be as bad. We had to get a chair by the pool about 6AM, but the second week we didn't I guess it all depends on when you go.

The food was good, but we got tired of it. Two weeks of buffet gets on you after a while. We didn't personally care for the menus in the sit down restaurants so we didn't eat there, but they were very popular. Reserve your nights as soon as you can after you arrive.
The service was poor when it came to clearing tables so others could eat. A couple of the bartenders were hostile and nasty. The casino staff was nice and the dive shop was great.

The room was not one of the refurbished ones, but it was spotless. Housekeeping did an excellent job.

Beware of the car rental desk, they quote one price then try to charge you another, and the car was terrible. They will also try to con you into extra liability insurance.

The beach at the Allegro is spectacular. One of the nicest stretches of Grace Bay.

Sands is a condo not an AI last time I looked.

As for the noise at Allegro, they had a show every night but it didn't last long and we were never bothered by the noise. They are supposed to have a kids program but I didn't see any evidence of it.

Anything else I missed, email me.

the turks and caicos are one of the most beautiful islands my husband and i have ever been to in terms of water and beach..... we travel all over the caribbean. it is unspoiled, and beautiful. the island itself is not that pretty but the water and beaches make up for it. i would highly recommend it. Do not go there expecting the allegro to be a 5 star resort but realize that you are in the caribbean and you will fully enjoy it. i would rate it a 3 star but worth every penny and we normally stay at 5 star properties. It is the place to go to relax and in a few years noone will be able to afford it...

Never having been there before, what would anyone recommend for a family of 4 that includes 2 little ones (3 and 6)? I hear Beaches is great but mega-expensive. Is it worth it? How about Allegro, The Sands or Point Grace?
Worried about the little ones getting sick from the food or water.
Thanks.

Jennifer, I'm going there soon with my family, including 3 little ones under 5 1/2. I'll report back when we return. We're staying at The Sands and The Seagate (we planned late so had to take nights at 2 places.) I'm sure we'll get a look at some of the other places on Grace Bay.

Jennifer: I stayed at Point Grace a couple of months ago and I don't think they allow children under 12. I believe it is quite a bit more expensive than The Sands (I don't know about Beaches as we didn't consider staying there). Beaches is definitely geared toward families and children. Grace Bay is absolutely stunning and as long as your children like the beach you'll probably enjoy your stay anywhere.
