Inexpensive NON AI??
Have done AI in Cancun and Jamaica (twice). If we were plan a trip where we DON"T stay at an AI, what would you recommend and why? Background: in mid 50's, we are not foodies, not into shopping, don't drink much, and want a safe environment. We like a zip line. A beautiful beach is not a must, but the water must be beautiful. We have to fly from Atlanta or Orlando. Our budget is $1,000. pp for room and air for three nights. Thanks.

We have stayed at Playa Plams, which I really liked, but they do not have a resturant/bar on site.
If you don't have to be right on the beach La Tortuga is great.
Other options; Le Reve, Mahekal, Petit Lafitte, Las Palapas, and Mosquito Blue
Here's the link to the zipline park:

Just be careful with weight limits and physical stature.

I like Puerto Vallarta (where I can rent either hotel rooms or apartments for ~$50-60/night). But since you are flying from Atlanta or Orlando I think the Caribbean islands or the Caribbean coast of Mexico makes more sense. Both for travel time with such a short vacation, and to stretch your budget.
