inexpensive hotel in Negril
I am looking for an inexpensive (no more than 50.00 per night), yet decent place to stay in Negril. (There are two of us) I was thinking of spending half the time at a place by the beach and half by the cliff.
Any suggestions on place to stay, cheap places to eat ,things to do would be greatly appreciated. |
Go to www.rootsbamboo.com for a look-see. Fits your price range and there are lot's of cheap/inexpensive dinning options all over Negril. I like De Bus which is just down the beach from Roots.
Forget the Cliffs. Nice to visit and catch a bite at Xtabi for example but the beach is more colorful. MM |
I think Yellow Bird on the beach in Negril is in your price range. You can find them at www.negril.com

On the cliffs, definitely Blue Cave Castle....their rooms are under $50 in summer, about $50 in winter and you can't beat the atmosphere, privacy, right on the water, great snorkeling etc. Funky, offbeat place.
Beach is trickier....you might try Fun Holiday, they're in that range and right on the beach with pool, jacuzzi, etc. |
What time of year are you going?
Off season you may wish to type hotel samsara into a search engine. A good deal on the cliffs. |
Thanks everyone for your messages. I am leaving mid-July...three weeks. So far, the most reasonable places look like Villa la cage, Lazy Days, yellow Bird, Roots Bamboo, LTU, Heart Beat. Any opinion on these. Thanks for all the help

also...would you recommend spending the extra money for Air conditioning? (I don't know how the nights are, mosquitos LOVE me! )
|
Yes, absolutely do yourself a huge favor and splurge on air-conditioning. It's steamy hot this time of year and the mosquitos will eat you alive at night. I've been to many islands and my mosquito experience in Negril ranks right up there as one of the worst. Bring a can of spray that has atleast 20% deet.

You don't need AC for mosquitos, just screens. We've stayed without AC the last two trips and been fine, even used a blanket at night but we styaed in properties that are designed NOT to ahve AC, meaning they're very open (but screened) cottages in deep shade gardens.
Our first trip to Negril was at Blue Cave on the cliffs and I, normally a mosquito magnet, came home with no bites at all. The following year we stayed on the beach and I got some in the evening, sandfleas or mosquitos, not sure which. Jamaica, even at it's steamiest, has nothing on Ohio in summer mosquito-wise. In Ohio they come get you during the day, in Jamaica I was never bothered until sunset and a couple of hours later, they were gone. Villa la cage (not on beach or cliffs, it's up a road off the cliff road) Lazy Days (this would be my pick from your list, great location, nice cabins). yellow Bird (heard good things but i hate that tall chain link fence between it and the beach, makes it look like a jail) Roots Bamboo (hope you like loud music and partying going on around you....) LTU (love the restuarant, I bet the villas are nice too but they are WAAAYYYY up the cliffs, pretty far from the beachand the busy cliff area) Heart Beat (can't help you here) |
Because of great location on the beach, look at White Sands www.whitesandsjamaica.com. The posted rate is $54 but if you call, I think they can do better. Mention the special that they have posted on www.negril.com to get a better rate. You will find a lot of places that will give you a better rate if you call them directly - especially in the summer. For cliff, look at Xtabi www.xtabi-negril.com - $45-50 per in summer. Great location and they have a pool in case the water is rough.
