If you loved Atlantis...tell me why!

We are traveling in April to Atlantis with our nine year old daughter. Please respond with great restaurants, insider tips, info on swim with dolphins, etc. Thanks!

My husband and I took our 17 year old
son and had a ball. The didn't want to
go home. We ate in alot of the resturants and never had a bad meal. The
ocean was perfect and the pools great.
We took a catamaran and went snorkling
and jet skiing plus a little gambling
They have alot to do for younger kids

The surroundings are awesome. Water everywhere. The aquariums and The Dig are unbelievable. Everytime you walk around you notice something else. So many different pools, great water slides, wonderful beach. Our favorite restaurants on the grounds are Fathoms, and Villa D'Este. For less expensive food, go across the street to Anthony's Caribbean Grille. For a breakfast sandwich walk a couple blocks over to the Hurrican Hole shopping center. There's a little place that has pretty good breakfast deals.
We just love it there .Have been there three times and will return.

We had a wonderful time at the Atlantis, too. My 11 year old loved the water slides. We took a snorkeling excursion that was enjoyable as well, altho the water temps were a little colder than we expected. We took the mealplan and ate most of our meals at the Marketplace buffet restaurant because the food was good there and we could each get whatever we wanted. My son is a picky eater and they had lots for him there. There are walls of glass with fish everywhere! It is quite an experience. The only down side of the resort were the crowds. Lines for restaurants and had to get a chair at the pool/beach early. Have a great time!

We just returned from Atlantis and had a nice time. Our only disappointment was in the food. I noticed on the other posts, people were happy with the restaurants, but we encountered one bad meal after another at pretty high prices. I'm sure small children would enjoy the buffets, though. I agree with everything else regarding the spectacular grounds and beautiful aquariums. We traveled in February and had no problem with crowds, but you may want to get up early and reserve a spot right in front of the pool to more easily keep an eye on your child, rather than sit 3 or 4 rows back from the pool.

Ditto what everyone said Julie. We spent the 3rd week in Feb there this year. It was our first time there and the architecture and aquariums (the Dig) are truly amazing. The one thing I would advise is to make your dining reservations now. Granted, we were there during Feb. school vacation, and the place was packed. As soon as we checked in, we called to get reservations at Fathoms. Not only was it booked for that night, but it and every single other restaraunt tht took reservations was booked for the entire week of our stay. The concierge told us that our travel agent should have told us to make reservations one month in advance, so you should be in good shape if you are going in April. One night, we went to the Asian restaurant right at six and they were able to seat us. The atmosphere was beautiful, the prices were high and the quality of the food, in my opinion, was poor for the price (the duck was really tough, vegetables mushy) the PuPu platter was fine.

However, the open air grilles and more casual spots on property that did not require reservations were fine and did not seem overpriced. The menus are simple...soup, apps, salads sandwiches etc., the drinks are good and the atmosphere is more relaxed.

For dinner, we combined the "grilles" with grabbing a cab into town to some local restaurants and shopping. We like to experience some of the local culture when we go to the Caribbean, and going into town is a good way to do that. We really did have a lot of fun. It is quite an amazing place. The beaches were much prettier than I expected, and if getting up at 6:00 am to reserve your pool chair is not your style, there are always plenty of chairs on the beach.

Your 9 year old will be in kid heaven, with the slides, and innertube rides which really are a blast. The weather was spectacular, I wished that I had packed a light cotten sweater for the evenings. Have a great time Julie!

You will most likely enjoy the Atlantis, because you will see your young daughter having a great time. Although I don't like the touristry places like atlantis, I did see many young kids having a super time. Hint: purchase a good quality snorkel, mask and fins at a dive op(not K-mart) and stuff it in the suitcase. The beach is nice and your daughter will see many reef fish swimming off Atlantis' beach. But, watch out for the speeding jet skies(I despise them!) and have her stay within the roped off area. She will definately love the inner-tube ride along the stream, and the millions of gallons of ocean in the aquarium. Hint: to the left of the Paradise Island Bridge is a footpath that leads down to the Dolphin excursion. You'll find a small ferry boat that will take everyone over to the downtown pier in Nassau, by the straw market, for a very small charge. Also, take her below the PI Bridge to "Potter's Cay." All the fish and sea creatures caught in the ocean and from the Bahamian Outer Islands are brought there. You never know what sea creatures your daughter will see. I know your daughter will have an incredible time. Robert

Correction: to the right of the PI Bridge is the footpath. Also, I wouldn't get totally hooked into eating at the Atlantis. Try the Poop Deck on Bay Street(walk over the PI bridge onto Bay Street and turn left, a quarter mile down), and Hurrican Hole Shopping Center, to the left of the PI Bridge, has a neat little deli that serves inexpensive and great foods. You can call Bahama Divers, the oldest dive op on New Providence Island. They will pick you up at your hotel, and take you to shallow reefs for snorkeling adventures. More personal, and they will go in the water with your daughter and you...very cautious and careful they are. Don't forget to order a pizza as well...with conch on it! OK, I'm done. Have a great time! Robert
