If you had your choice?
Lets say you had a budget of $4500 for two people. Which island you would choose and why if you had your choice between Dominican Republic and St.Lucia in March. Also, what resort would you choose to stay at on the island.
Thanks in advance!

St. Lucia, you can get good rates to Dominican usually, but St. Lucia is higher...I would try Anse Chastanet, Ladera, or Jalousie Hilton for a unique experience...www.ansechastanet.com has some pics and info...

St Lucia, HANDS DOWN...
Look at the Jalousie Hilton with the private plunge pools...on a hilltop overlooking the beaches..they have jitneys to take you down to the beach..private,elegant and romantic...

I would choose St.Lucia! I know alot of people like the Dominican Republic on this post, but I have heard from friends that have traveled there more negative. It is not known to be the safest place. From friends going there, the water has it's revenge on some people. I have heard nice things about St. Lucia. Why these two places?

girlonthego: It looked like DR and St. Lucia have mountains and a more tropical look to them. We do want to relax on a nice beach and be in a place where its not that crowded but I would rather not some place that is flat with no nice scenery. I love photography and am always trying to choose a place where the scenery is beautiful. Also, on a budget of $4500 for myself and my husband for a week, I heard the other islands would be too expensive if we want to stay some place nice.
Did I hear wrong? Any other suggestions? Its getting closer to March and I'm worried I won't get a reservation anywhere. What is your take on All Inclusives?
I always rely on this forum to help during travel. So far, its been right on the mark every time!

I am sure St.Lucia would have beautiful scenery. I heard the Hilton there is lovely and private. I have never been. I have just heard from friends that the DR has it's downfalls with regard to water being questionable, safety in the cities, and the resorts having so-so food. I think of both places I would shoot for St.Lucia. There are a few all inclusives there also. Put a post up on the all inclusives in St. Lucia and see if anyone has been? Have a wonderful trip.

The best resort in the Caribbean is in the Dominican Republic. It is called Casa de Campo, and it is located in La Romana, in the Eastern portion of the country. Please enter their web page (www.casadecampo.com) and see for yourself. In that page you can check prices and make reservations. You will see that $4,500 (even with plane tickets) will go a long way, and with a lot of style and comfort. I have been there.

The Jalousie Hilton, Ladera, and Anse Chastanet all look perfect, unfortunately their prices seem to be high for our budget which needs to include airfare as well. Any other suggestions in ST. Lucia? Has anyone heard or stayed at the Windjammer Landing and would you recommend? I know its not anything close to the others but with everything included I think we'll definitely run over the $4500 for those places.
Your suggestions are wonderful so far!

Hi,
We stayed at the Windjammer Landing about 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. The property was beautiful, room lovely, food good and staff very friendly.
I know they have at least two pools. The beach is kind of small but nice. We were there on all inclusive.
We had lunch at the Hilton one afternoon and have to say it is a gorgeous property. Although, Windjammer was perfect for us.
We've been considering DR (Punta Cana) as well and have been getting negative feedback. That said --- Good luck with your decision!
