If we loved Anguilla and Provo, will we like Grand Cayman?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to plan a vacation to the Caribbean for April 2008. Over the past couple of years, we have gone to Aruba, Bermuda, Provo, and Anguilla. We have enjoyed them all immensely for different reasons. If we had to pick a favorite, it would be Anguilla.
Grand Cayman has some good airfares. Will we like GC if we liked the other islands? We love the white sand and bright turquoise water, snorkeling, and good restaurants. I'm trying to decide whether to do Anguilla again, or try GC. Thanks!

I have been to Provo, Grand Cayman, and Anguilla (as well as others). If I were given an opportunity to return to only one of those three, it would be Anguilla.
I would check prices and see what you come up with. We have found that Anguilla has gotten quite expensive, and in some cases is cost prohibitive. If you can get a good deal in Grand Cayman, then why not try it. We enjoyed our time there, but have not made it a repeat destination (yet).

Have been to Provo and Anguilla each over 20 times and Grand Cayman once Found it to be very touristy with a couple of cruise ships a day. Lots of hustle and bustle. Not laid back like Anguilla and Provo. Restaurants on GC can't even come close to the restaurants on The other two. If you are looking for a different island you might consider the BVI's or St Croix or St John

I have to agree with HowardC:
I've been numerous times to Anguilla and Provo, keep returning there. I've been to Caymans twice-and don't have to keep repeating it. It's very nice-but the clarity of the water and the beaches are far superior in Anguilla and Provo.
Overall, you'll still have a nice time, you wil like it-probably more than other islands out there-just not as much as Anguilla or Provo.
Of the islands you've been to-I do rank Caymans above Aruba.
HowardC gave a good suggestion-I love the Virgin Islands too!

I was a long time Cayman goer until I found Anguilla. I loved Cayman every year I went. The beach is nice, there are nice restaurants and ok resorts. (The Hyatt was way better than ok before Ivan).
But, that being said, once we found Anguilla we can't go anywhere else. If I too had to pick somewhere to go back it would be Anguilla. As a matter of fact I'm headed there in November.

I have been to all of those islands excpet for Bermuda. My favorite is Anguilla as well. But I liked the others for other reasons. We are returning to GC next spring..we found a condo right on 7MB (in the middle section so not crowded but still walkbale to many things) that we love. The island is clean and upscale. there is a lot to do if you wnat to, the snorkeling is excellent..I found the water clarity to be on par with Anguilla and Provo. The beach is great though Anguilla gets the edge there. And i thought the restuarants were better than Provo but not quite as good as Anguilla.
I think you should give it a try.

We have visited all three 2 or 3 times in the past 9-10 years. I agree CG is more for tourists by far than the other two. I also found the locals on Provo to be the most plesant. If I were between 21-40 then maybe 7 Mile Beach might be appealing with the hotel upon hotel row and somewhat of a social scene. The beaches on Anguilla are the best, then Provo and GC are about tie based on where you are on the island, in my opinion. The snorkeling was terrific on GC until 6-7 yrs. ago but now it does not compare to St. John in USVI's or Curacao, Belize. Provo area has some good snorkel spots but Anguilla has almost no snorkeking but diving in GC is very good.I think if you really want a great vacation and splurge go to Caneel Bay on St. John, or Peter Island Resort or or at 3/4 the price consider Curacao.

Please let us know what you decide. I'm having a similar dilemma on a smaller scale. Of the islands you mentioned, I have only been to Provo and Bermuda (the latter a long time ago). Aruba has been a "runner up" several times for me, and Anguilla and Grand Cayman are near the top of my list for future trips. But, since I already have planned my next trip to Provo, I have some time to figure out where to go after that.
