Ideas for Cozumel

My wife and I are going on a cruise line and are considering doing our own excursion. We're looking for ideas as to how to see the sights. We prefer the Mayan ruin thing over snorkeling, but are just looking for an adventurous day. Any suggestions? Travel, best places, etc.

There's a nice ruin on Coz called San Gervasio. While not along the lines of Tulum or Chichen Itza, it's a nice couple of hours diversion.

Taxis are cheap, so you could get an island tour from a driver and stop on the other side of the island for lunch at Mezcalito's or Coconuts.

Downtown is fun for walking around and shopping. (Pama, Los Cinco Soles.) Have lunch at Casa Denis, Diamond Cafe.)

There's horseback riding, ATV jungle tour, beach club for the day, snorkel tours, etc. GREAT diving and snorkeling there.

Have fun!

You could rent a jeep for a day and drive around the island. We did this on our trip to Cozumel and it was our favorite day. The "other" side of the island is beautiful, and you can also make a stop at the ruins.

I love Cozumel! We went for a week and stayed in a house. But, one day we took a cheap ferry over to the Mainland and went to Coba. We rented a car for the day once we got there. I really liked that ruin a lot. You can rent bikes there and cruise around. Very cool day. I liked it better than Chichen Itza...But, if you want to stay on Cozumel, we spent a lot of time diving and trying to go to restaurants away from all the cruiseships. Don't know much about ruins there...

I second the recomendation of renting a vehicle on the island. Book it before you go and the rental company may even pick you up at the dock.

Make a loop including San Gervasio, the shore along the wildside and Punta Sur.

Be sure to stop at Coconuts, a very relaxed bar with decent food on a cliff overlooking the ocean on the wild side (East).

Google Punta Sur, San Gervasio and Coconuts and you will get lots of info.
