I really wish I could take advantage of this offer...

Wow! I wish I could take advantage of this offer, but it's valid only 'till December 15th. The Puerto Rico Tourism office has bought 9,000 plane tickets and they are giving them away for FREE to folks who buy at least 5 nights at one of many hotels/resorts on the island. Tourism must really be hurting! The prices for the 5 nights appear to be quite reasonable. They start at $189 per person. Some of the nicer properties are the Palmas del Mar resort for $308 (per person for 5 nights, including air) and $388 at the posh Wyndham El Conquistador. For more info check out: http://dir.travelzoo.com/Vacations.a...ry=54&id=58712. You can book through the PR Tourism Office, American Express and other travel agencies.

You still have to pay taxes and pfc's on the tickets and from what I have read there is a very, very small number of moderate hotels available. This is definitely one of those deals that is too good to be true.

No, this a really a good one. I am an agent and it is for real. American and Delta airlines are doing it. Call your travel agent. They will book it thru a tour operator, Any good tour operator knows about it. I got for customers 5nights hotel Hyatt Dorado 550.00 per person with air, hotel, taxes and transfers! That is about half price!

The only things that seems odd is that hotels usually don't charge "per person." For me, it's always been "per room" (one price for me and my husband). Leads me to wonder if the hotel prices Mariarosa had quoted are inflated or doubled.

As I re-read her post, I must correct my earlier post. If it includes air, then it's usually per person. If not, the hotel price should be per room.

Mary, the travelzoo website does say that the prices include airfare, and they usually quote prices with airfare per person. I don't know if they include the airfare tax or the transfers to the hotel, as I didn't click around very much since we are not taking any other vacations this year. I thought the price for the Conquistador was pretty good. I really wanted to stay there in June '99 but decided to stay at the Westin Rio Mar because the price for the Conquistador was more than 200 per night.

It is truly an excellent deal. I booked and will be leaving on Nov. 28. The hotel I choose is the El San Juan, one of the better hotels on the island. Total cost of the trip was $929. The hotel cost was $400 a person and that comes to $160 a night for a double. Under ordinary circumstances there is no way you get a room at that propertyi for that price. The taxes on the two tickets was $129. Checked to see what a ticket would cost and the best price I was able to find was $321 a person. If I had booked this on my own the cost of the trip would have been close to $2000. This deal has been around for at least three weeks.
