Would like to take a Caribbean trip in August? If I had to prioritize my interets, I would list say....<BR><BR>Food<BR>Beaches<BR>Nightlife<BR>Nat ure<BR>Snorkeling/Scuba<BR><BR>We're going with another couple so some type of villa might be good. I've been to Caneel Bay but I don't want to spend that much, but I want to stay somewhere nice.<BR><BR>Any suggestions (island and/or resort) off the top of your heads? Thanks!<BR><BR><BR>

we're planning to go to st. john in may and i have seen lots of very nice looking villas, just start poking around in the web sites for usvi and it will lead you to lots of villas. it is just two of us plus first time visit so we wanted something different this time but if there's a next time, would probably go with a villa.

Have you considered St. Martin?

If food is your #1 priority, you'll probably be happiest on a French island. Since Guadeloupe and Martinique have difficult same-day connections, they're out. St. Barth's is pricey to get to, and pricey to stay on, so it's out. That leaves St. Martin, which is relatively easy to get to. <BR><BR>It has beautiful beaches, good nightlife, great food, and you can find a variety of price ranges for accommodations. I like Orient Beach for active vacations.

If food is your top priority, then St.martin/Maarten is definitely the place for you. It has over 300 restaurants and all of them are more delicious than the next<BR>there is french,of course, and italian, , and local..just to mention a few<BR>St. martin also has night life..casinos, clubs. beach bars. snorkeling and scuba trips are available. if you have time there are day trips to neighboring islands(Anguilla, St barths,Saba, st. Kitts)<BR>the beaches are beautiful too<BR>go to http://www.gobeach.com and look at the villa section

You might look into Romora Bay on Harbour Island, Bahamas www.romorabay.com which is villas on the water, nice pool area and GREAT food.<BR><BR>Also Compas Point on New Providence (Nassau) is beautiful bungalows right on the water, also a great restaurant there as well.<BR><BR>You can get direct flights from the east coast and if you leave in the early am, you can be on the beach before noon.<BR><BR>Have a great trip.<BR>

In August, I would be looking to avoid hurricanes - this brings you down to the area of Aruba, Bonaire or Curacao.

I agree with Emily. The food is ok in the ABC islands (Aruba, et al) but they have everything else - nightlife, scuba, etc. The nature is not lush tropic nature but desert. These islands are out of the hurricane zone and would be my choice for travel in August.<BR><BR>August is the beginning of the height of hurricane season. I have been in the Caribbean in August, and even though you could be lucky enough to not have a hurricane at that time, there was much more daily rain. There are lots of tropical weather systems in the Caribbean at this time of the year. I remember being in St. Lucia in August and losing two days of vacation due to pouring down rain - all day rain. June and July have been much better in terms of brief rain showers (liquid sunshine!) and calm seas.

I personally love St. Thomas. This island has great shopping, excellent food and beautiful beaches. Since your going with another couple you could go on a day sail with Jester's (view his website) and stop at the island of St. John... then maybe a day at the BVI where you can go snorkeling and to the Baths. Lots of great places to eat and when you stay on the quiet northeastern end of St. Thomas you have the beauty and still are close to explore on your time. Go to Negril, Jamaica. The food is wonderful...so many great restaurants it would be hard to name them all.<BR><BR>7 mile beach area is a treasure...miles of white sand and stretches of uncrowded area.<BR>Live reggae in several venues nightly...always a good scene with very friendly people.<BR><BR>The natural surroundings are stunning...you can also stay on the &quot;cliffs&quot; area in the westend...check out rockhouse hotel or tensing pen...both spectacular, private smaller resorts with cliffside villas. Take one of several daytrips within an hours drive...Mayfield Falls is breathtaking and nature at its best.<BR><BR>Great snorkeling...if you stay at a cliff property...it's right at your doorstep...these are not high cliffs...stone paths carved down to water access less than 10 feet...fish and coral reefs abound. Or hire one of the many boats that take you to the offshore reefs for $30...they are a lovely sight and great way to spend a couple of hours.<BR><BR>Negril has everything you're looking for.
