I heard there a the Bahama Islands are dirty, is this true?

Hi

I'm thinking of going to the Bahamas, but I heard there is some parts of the island are dirty and overloaded with tourist. Is there a cetain area that you would suggest. Looking for clean beaches.
thanks

Not when we were there. For beaches try Paradise Island or cable beach.

Parts of Nassau are "dirty," but there are clean parts as well. Paradise Island is overcrowded. Of course, there are over 700 cays, islands and rock formations which make up the Bahamian archipelago, and many are pristine and beautiful. Robert

Paradise Island definitely qualifies as being touristy, almost like Miami on a small scale. But it's not dirty.
Much of Nassau and Freeport is run down (but not touristy).
Most of the other 99% of the Bahamas is either sparsely inhabited or unpopulated, and in most cases pristine. Only a tiny % of the Bahamas are ever seen by tourists.

Note that the Bahamas consist of literally hundreds of islands, many of which are frequented by tourists.

In my experience, Nassau and Freeport are generally considered dirty and, as one of my scuba friends says, "packed with redneck trash." Of course this is a generality. The "out islands" are less crowded and much nicer places to visit.
Enjoy!

As everyone has stated, the Bahamas consist of hundreds of islands/cays. Consider the Out Islands such as the Abacos, Eleuthera, the Exumas, Cat Island, and Long Island. Definitely not overloaded with tourists and definitely clean.

I totally agree with RobertoB. The out-islands are truly beautiful! The cover of the current Fodor's Bahamas 18th edition show a secluded beach. I know that beach very well, it's in front of our home on San Salvador island, Bahamas. Definately do a search on all of the out islands and find out what peaceful is all about!
