Hyatt Resort
 

Does anyone have any feed back from the hyatt in the caymen islands? I am heading there with my wife for our honeymoon/vacation. Are we staying at the right place? Are we going to the roight island?

<BR>The Hyatt on Grand Cayman is very pretty, upscale, nice golf course. The big drawback is that it's across the main drag from SMB (you have to walk through the property to the street, cross it, then past the shops & pool to get to it). There are a very few units on the beach, I understand priced around 1500/nt. Depending on where you stay on the property you could have quite a walk. <BR> <BR>The right island? That depends on what you you're looking for. Cayman is very clean & safe. Water & underwater sports are the main draw. There is no nightlife to speak of & not much scenery or interesting shopping. The beaches & water & Stingray City/Sandbar are the island's true draws. We love Turtle Nest Inn in Boddentown & explore the island from there. It's a wonderfully romantic place to stay.

Wine Spectator magazine recently choose the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman as one of the top ten best resorts in the Caribbean, it has also consistantly ranked very high in Conde Nast Traveler and many other magazines. Try to get upgraded to a room on the beach (if you are going off season you may have a good chance of this) They are not all $1,500 a night (that's for a very large suite in high season) when I checked a regular suite (900 sq. feet) on the beach was $595 a night. I am sure you won't be disappointed I hear the renovations are all very nice.

<BR>The Hyatt Grand Cayman did not impress us (we were there a month ago). The grounds were manicured & overall condition of the hotel was excellent. But the food was disappointing and the service not on par with what we've come to expect from Hyatt. The beach was always crowded and was indeed a tiring walk, especially on returning. If you stay in a beach unit, you have the same walk, only in reverse. The course was in beautiful shape, not very challenging, but overall a good experience. <BR> <BR>If we go again, we'd stay at the Westin or rent a villa. The Hyatt just didn't live up to its name and was not at all what one expects for the price. <BR> <BR>

Staff drives the grounds and will always ask if you would like a ride to the beach. You can call ahead for a ride if you care to. Grounds are beautiful. It is inconvenient being across from the beach. Depends on what you want. Quite a few restaurants within walking distance.

I would have to agree with Soda. We stayed at they Hyatt last year and it did not impress us either. We have stayed at Hyatts all over the world and it did not seem to be up to par. The fact that you had a pretty far trek to the beach was not appealing either. We did go to look at the Westin which is on the beach and even peeked at a room or two. We both agreed we would have stayed there - the water is so beautiful there that have the experience is having it easily accessible. The rooms were nice at the Westin and I believe it is a newer hotel. Have a great time.
