Hyatt Regency or Wyndham in Aruba
 

Looking for a honeymoon site for June 2002. Which hotel is nicer or any other recommendations are welcome. <BR>Thanks!

We have stayed at the Aruba Hyatt 5 or 6 times and really like it. It is the nicest hotel on the island, great grounds, pools, restaurants, casino. The beach along the high rise section is not the best, but that is the only negative thing we can say about it.

Congratulations Sarah! We spent our Anniversary in a lovely, spacious, oceanfront suite at The Marriott Resort, and were very pleased. The rooms and balconies are much larger than The Hyatt's. And, they also have an outstanding upscale Northern Italian restaurant called Tuscany. We spent several perfectly romantic evenings at Tuscany. The cuisine, wine, service and decor were superb. The only 5 star hotels in Aruba are Hyatt, Marriott and Radisson. The Wyndham is a great hotel and we do enjoy staying there but it is a 4 star. But, they do little extras like come around at the pool area and give you a sprtiz of water, cool face cloths, handout personal CD players, water, etc. The Hyatt is centrally located with excellent service and decor. Their grounds are awesome and they have a mutli-leveled slide in the pool area. You can arrange with the concierge to have a private table set up on the beach for an intimate and romatic dinner..sip some wine and watch the sunset with your toes in the sand. Go with Hyatt or Radisson. IMHO Marriott is over-rated. Perhaps @ one time it was, in fact, a 5 star but it is crying out for refurbishment. We were there last winter & found the rooms 'tired' & musty, beds were uncomfortable & elevators did not work. There were extremely lengthy line ups every single morning for breakfast ( & slow, slow, slow when we finally did get a table!). <BR>The pool area @ Marriott is way too small in proportion to the size of the hotel ( hence it was always crowded). There are no screens on the balcony doors & you cannot sit out there b/c of the mosquitoes so don't worry about Hyatt's small balconies b/c you won't be out there anyway unless you want to get eaten alive! (Now it may be different in June when you plan to be there). All of my comments relate to the Marriott hotel not the timeshares next door (to the south) which I have heard is a very nice property. <BR>At the same time that we were in Aruba we had friends staying @ the Hyatt which we all agreed was far superior to Marriott. Radisson also looks very nice. <BR>Happy honeymoon wherever you end up, Sarah!

I really liked the Hyatt. I can't even describe how beautiful the grounds, pool area, and reception areas are. Gorgeous to say the least. I have also heard great things about the Radisson which has been recently redone. I don't think you can go wrong with either of those.

Michelle, have you completely lost your mind? Or, do you bear a deep hatred of the Marriott chain? The Aruba Marriott is approximately 5 years old. And, having stayed there this April, I can asure everyone that Michelle's story is bogus! The rooms were very clean, spacious, up to date, and smelled fine. There were no problems with the elevators, mosquitos, restaurants, pool, service, etc. My family and I (total of 8 people in 4 rooms), spent 2 beautiful weeks there. A lovely resort indeed. Last year we stayed at the Hyatt, which has lovely grounds and restaurants, but the rooms are much smaller and the balconies are non-existant. So it really depends on what your needs are. I would not hesitate to recommend the Marriott or Hyatt.

I definitely agree with Michelle. Having stayed at the Hyatt and Radisson, I would strongly recommend that you stay at either. The pool and beach area at the Radisson are more expansive and the rooms and balconies larger. However, the overall accomodations at both are excellent!! Enjoy!

I agree with Cherise. I stayed at the Aruba Marriott last month and had a great time. I do not understand why Michelle would make-up such lies. Everything was beautiful and clean. And there weren't any mosquitos, musty odors, problems with elevators, long lines at breakfast, or anything else. Michelle is totally lying! And the pool, which also has a swim-up bar, was delightful. They also have one of the islands 5 star restaurants called Tuscany, which is excellent for formal or romantic dinners.

Well, Michelle must be on Radisson's payroll as well because I believe she recommended Hyatt or Radisson!! Just quickly scrolled through this & was struck by the catiness! Wow! Why is it that when someone describes a negative experience others get very nasty? Michelle described what she found at Marriott in Aruba (& by the way, I have read other negative comments about this property that are consistent with what Michelle has reported.) Everyone has different standards. So what was not acceptable to Michelle was clearly acceptable to others here. Or, perhaps the quality of the rooms varies.... all rooms/accomodations at Marriott in Aruba may not be equal. Also, depending on the time of year the pool/restaurants may be crowded or not. So, let's lighten up here, ok? Sarah who posed the original question can weigh both sides re: Marriott. This forum is for the exchange of ideas! Not for bashing each other.
