Hyatt or Amsterdam Manor or ?
 

We will be traveling to Aruba in April with two teenagers, 13 and 15. After some research, we have narrowed down our accomodation choices to the Hyatt or Amsterdam Manor. We would really prefer to stay at Hyatt BUT their rooms seem to only have 2 double beds. While we don't expect to be in the room much except for sleeping, that is our problem with double beds we don't get much sleep (we know this from last summers vacation in Yellowstone.) We are leaning toward Amsterdam Manor as they have suites, but would like some feedback on the rooms and property. We have heard so many nice things about Hyatt and it is even less money. Any opinions would be appreciated.

It has been a few years, but Amsterdam Manor was one of my favorite places.....It is in a good location, has a great view of the ocean, pool area, etc. Very different than Hyatt, it is Dutch inspired buildings and units. You can go to the store and cook and keep snacks there too. I thought it was the cutest( I hate to use that word, but it was) neatest place there.

Your question is a little startling, since I have never heard or seen these two properties compared to each other. The Hyatt is one of the best hotels on the island -- many people say the best -- and is considered a 5 star. The Amsterdam Manor, a 3 star, appears to be an older property that has been very nicely maintained but is in no way comparable to the Hyatt. In fact, in size, it felt like more of a motel. Having said that, I found myself thinking that I would not mind staying there if the guest rooms were as nice as the outside. (We were staying at the Radisson.) We did not see any of the guest rooms, but walked throughout the lobby and common areas. As stated by Wednesday, the Amsterdam Manor is definitely cute, and I thought it was quaint and charming, at least on the outside. But it is located on a busy main road (bring ear plugs) across the street from Eagle Beach, which, although a nice stretch of beach, appeared to be fairly quiet. Your teenagers may prefer the activities available on Palm Beach, which is where the Hyatt, Radisson, Marriott and Wyndham, among others, are located. If you decide to stay at the Amsterdam Manor, you should be prepared for what the property is/is not. For the prices the AM is charging, I would stay at the Playa Linda, which is a much more upscale condo hotel on Palm Beach (www.playalinda.com). You don't say when in April you are going, but Playa Linda's rates drop quite a bit at the end of April.

Go to The Aruba Forum Index. At this website you can ask people who travel to Aruba regularly all kinds of questions. We are also going to Aruba in April and I have visited this website frequently. They will know all about the condo situation. We are staying at the Marriott hotel. The Marriott has a relatively new time share property that will offer more than one hotel room. This also offers all of the hotel's activities,restaurants, and grounds can be used. Good luck.

You have to ask? Of course the Hyatt! Hyatt's are amazing, the best! We stayed at the Wyndham, a close walk to Hyatt. Wyndham was awesome, but Hyatt even better.
