Hurricane season?

Am completely naive about Caribean travel...that being said a group of friends are looking at St. Maarten in mid August. I am the only one raising the weather question and have not been able to research the way I like....soooo any insight? or better experience?
thanks!

August and September are the height of the hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30. Last year there was even a hurricane in December.

If they are planning on going in August, they should get travel insurance, just in case.

I agree with wantsomesun. I live near St. Maarten and although our worst hurricanes have always been in September, we have still been known to have an active season in other months, as well.

They honestly should be fine in August, but being that it's so close to the height of the season I would also recommend they get travel insurance just in case they had to cancel their plans last minute. Otherwise, tell them to come on down! :)

I live on st. maaretn.Thankfully, we have not had a hurricane since 1999. our worst hurricane was in 1995 in September. Traditionally the peak of the season is the last 2 weeks of August into the middle of September.
There is of course, just no way to forecast.
travel insurance is a good idea.

Try the NOAA website: lots of info on hurricanes. OR google hurricane, you'll find more research then you can possibly imagine.
