Is St. Lucia or the Carribbean in general a bad idea in August? What is the weather like? Thanks

If you go to a Sandals, they offer a hurricane warranty, so you don't have to worry. Check with your travel agent, and they will no for sure.<BR><BR>The chances of a hurricane hitting is rare, however, you do want insurance just in case.<BR><BR>Or you may consider the ABC islands, Aruba Bonaire or Curacao.<BR><BR>Have fun!

Hello Steve,<BR>Some people may tell you that St Lucia is safe during hurricane season, but this is not the case. I was there one September when 3 named hurricanes - Karen, Luis, and Marilyn - came through in the 2 weeks I was there, and damaged the resort where we stayed and we could not dive at all for a week. <BR>The worst time to go to any of the Caribbean (except for Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, and to a lesser degree Tobago) is early September. There is almost a perfect bell curve durng the months of the season - peaking in early September. <BR>We have begun going in mid to late October, and have been fine so far...

Would early August be ok in the Carribean? How about July? This seems to be the only place to get answers to these things. It would be for my honeymoon

Hurricane season is from June thru end of November. Aruba is the place to be! Read that hurricane policy of Sandals VERY carefully as it may not be such a deal.

The earlier the better. Most of the storms that hit the islands do so a little later in the season.<BR>Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao work, but not if you have your heart set on a lush tropical vacation. <BR>If it just needs to be beaches and beautiful water, they are your best bet.

How about St. John during first week of August? We were thinking we'd be ok during the last week of July - first week of August.

I'd go for it...<BR>We've traveled to the area many times during different times of the year and only had problems in September.<BR>(But there's always a first time for everything :)<BR>I think you can get trip insurance if you're really worried. <BR>It will be great there that time of year - no crowds!

Hi,<BR><BR>St. Lucia ALWAYS gets a lot of rain - that can ruin a trip to any island. For accurate statistics check out the following great site: http://www.weatherbase.com<BR><BR>The farther south you go in the Caribbean the better. While it is true Aruba is dry & out of the hurricane belt, the winds are very strong and you get pelted with sand.<BR><BR>Barbados is also pretty much out of the hurricane belt and it's a better choice, in my opinion.<BR><BR>The only time it is safe to go to the northern Caribbean is spring -- prior to June 1 (the official start of the hurricane season) - however the bulk of bad weather usually hits in August and September.<BR><BR>Lois

I;m going to St. Lucia in two weeks... I'll let you know how it is when I return. I was also very scared about booking the trip in July but I really didnt have any other options.
