Hurricane Earl
 

My writer on St. John just checked in. They still don't have power or high-speed internet service, but damage on the island looks to be fairly light. Mostly vegetation and some wrecked boats (including some, apparently, at the Westin). I've seem similar optimistic reports now from St. Maarten as well. I was watching the St. John Spice Cam at the ferry dock, and aside from the dinghy dock taking some damage, I didn't see too much visible mess.

Of course, there are more storms coming, but Earl doesn't seem to have been too devastating (from what I've been able to discover, at least). Let's use this thread to keep up with developments on Earl. We can start another for Fiona, which is just behind.

TCI was not affected by Earl...not even any rain!

The National Hurricane Center is where EVERYBODY gets the hurricane forcasts.

Stormcarib has volunteers at every island. They try to post when they can (somtimes power goes down during these storms) They also post pictures and information. The website also has a tool (suprisingly accurate) that you can see "how close will it get?" and tell you the distance and when it will be at its closest.

This has webcams on every island, so most times you can get live feed of when storms are hitting islands. Keep in mind, sometimes the weather gets rough and the cams will be down, but pretty good indication of what's going on.

Stormcarib is a very good site. I checked it often this week. Abd I was watching the St. John webcams all day Monday (we have a villa rented there for next Spring) and it's amazing how resilient they are.

thankfully the worst side ( northeast) of Earl actually missed all the islands.
we had a lot of vegetation damage and beach erosion on St. Maarten but thankfully not much more than that.
Now we watch for Gaston
