An update on Grenada and Palm Island from stormcarib -
At this stage we understand that damage to Grenada and her
infrastructure has been extensive and at present we are not in a
position to accept any more bookings for holidays on the island.
However, we understand that whilst Calabash and La Source (which has its
own power and water plants) appear to be in reasonable shape Spice
Island, La Luna and True Blue have suffered extensive damage. We also
have reports of damage to Palm Island, in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
All resorts in Tobago appear to operating normal except Blue Waters. We
have no reports of extensive damage in Barbados

Friends of the Flamboyant Hotel in Grenada will be pleased by the following post on the Carib Storm site. Looks like manager Lawrence Lambert and the rest of the crew have made it through all right.

We talked to Lawrence at the Flamboyant last night. Everyone is fine. The roof of the top rooms are gone as well as the resturant. The bottom rooms got flooded but visitors that stayed there and spent the night in the reception/office area are pitching in and helping clean up, cooking, even answering the phone that is still working. As we talked to him they were cooking lobster in the parking lot. With no power they have had to use up the refrigerated items first. Lawrence was in great spirits, thankful that no one was badly injured. Hope this helps.

Has anyone heard anything from/about Carriacou?

curiousx Sep 10th, 2004 05:11 AM

Carriacou has indeed got off relatively lightly - about 200+ houses have roof damage, particularly in the Belle Vue area. Harvey Vale and Lesterre have less damage than other areas. The island is under a boil water order and power is out.

These two websites are particularly good for current information: http://www.stormcarib.com/ and The SpiceIslander Talk Shop

Thanks! I figured they got slammed since they are so close to Grenada.
I'm glad to hear they did not fare too badly. I hope they had no casualties.

We had planned to go in October to look at land for sale, but maybe we should wait for awhile now - I imagine they will be needing time to get the airport in Grenada back up to speed.

I simply cannot believe the devastation on Grenada. I have also been following the posts on stormcarib.com. I hope they get the looting under control...sounds like a very scary situation.
