I am so tired of hearing about all the supposed crime stats of the USVI's. This issue comes up atleast every 2 weeks and it's getting annoying and played out.

Vicki didn't ask about St. Croix, she asked about St. John.

Secondly, is there crime there, well yes. Just like any other place. I dare any one of you to find a populated place in this world where no crime has ever been committed. And if you can find it, perhaps those of you droning off your statistics should vacation there!

Use common sense, lock your doors, watch your valuables etc. But don't be afraid to go and don't be afraid when your there. It is a truly beautiful place with friendly people and should not be missed!

I am going to ST John on my honeymoon in June and had not even thought about problems with crime until i read these postings. From what I can gather here, some people seem frightened by a place that has ANY history of crime. I agree with the last poster - that crime is going to exist in any populated location. I live right outside of Washington D.C. and there are stories on the news EVERY day about the crime there but I have never had a problem walking around there at night. You just have to have common sense.

Elise - we spent our honeymoon there last year and found no problems at all. The island is wonderful, beaches "fabulous". Lots to do. We can not wait to return. It was very very safe.

We can't wait to get back there.

I agree with Elise regarding having common sense to avoid crime, etc. So, my question to those in the know, are there areas of St. John that we should have "common sense" and avoid esp. at night?

Only the places with people in them.

"is there crime there, well yes. Just like any other place. I dare any one of you to find a populated place in this world where no crime has ever been committed. "

As a regular visitor to the oft-cited-here-for-crime Jamaica, I must agree.

If the fact that crime exists somewhere will keep you from going, your list of possibilities for vacation will be awfully short.
