Best Place to Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary?
Any Advice?
12/26 -1/2/09
We don't typically travel during the Holiday's. Looking to leave kids @ home & get away.
What's the Best Beach / warm weather Destination to celebrate a (10) year anniversary? looking to travel 12/26 -1/2/09.
Any suggestions? We found a timeshare for $ 1,000 for the week in Cancun + $ 600 for Airfare. Is this about the rate for that week?
+ Does anyone have a "secret special" location they recommend? *Many thx.
We've searched Cheapcaribbean & Travel Zoo with no luck. Craigslist had Timeshare deals everywhere...

You haven't given us enough information about your likes and dislikes for anyone to give you a definitive answer as to "what's the Beach/warm weather destination?"
Generally speaking any Caribbean destination south of Puerto Rico will be "warm" (although you are dealing with mother nature so there are varibles and never any guarantees when it come to predicting the weather for a specific week or so period).
You can find terrific beaches on lots of islands but the thing is all island destinations are different. What is it you want to do and see during your trip? Make a list of the top 10 or 15 things you want from a vacation (be specific - try to tell us what "best" means to you - we are not mind readers) and post them here. It will make it easier for knowledgeable contributors to guide you in the right direction.
As for your time frame - the week or two surrounding Christmas/New Years is the busiest time of year in the Caribbean so expect to find the highest prices of the year. Also, many resorts, hotels and condos are booked up to a year in advance and that can limit your choices so if you find something to your liking that's still available don't hesitate to book it.
The price of $1,000/week for a time share in Cancun sounds "low" for that time of year but without knowing specifics as to what property, the amenities and location being offered it's difficult to say if it's a good price or not.
Regarding airfare - again without knowing where you are travelling from it's impossible to tell if the fare is a good one. Also, is that fare the per person rate? All I can say is it could be a decent fare but we need more info from you to determine that.
Finally, for decades hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of tourists have been travelling to the Caribbean each year and by now everything has been discovered. There are no "secret special locations" but rather there are places that because of their remoteness feel like they are hidden away or off the beaten path. These types of resorts are usually very pricey. Tell us what your actual budget is and we can try to guide you. For example, you indicated you found a timeshare for $1,000 for a week. That comes to about $143/night. I can tell you about a "secret special location" that will sent you back over $3,000/night - I doubt that's what YOU had in mind.
If your price range for accomodations is in the $1,000/week category Cancun, Cozemel and the Dominican Republic will be your best bets as they are among the most economical destinations in the Caribbean.
