How is the diving in Cozumel ?

I"ll trying to get a group there for diving. What is the diving like? Can you suggest a place to stay that would make non-diving wifes happy? Clean, safe with a pool or something to do while we are in the water.
What is the best time of year??

Jerry, Cozumel is a premier dive location. It's the best I've experienced and look forward to my annual trip in may. Check out www.aldora.com Dave does a great review of the island, restuarants, diving and hotels. I don't know whhat your budget is but Dave gets good rates at Fiesta Inn and El Presidente. We stay at either Plaza las Glorias or Fiesta Inn. El Presidente has a nice beach - too far from town for us. San Miguel has lots to offer. Great restaurants and some fun places. The island is very safe- the people recognize tourism as their livlyhood. Since my son and I go for diving we normally go in May or June. It's cheaper and since we spend lots of time underwater, who cares what it's like topside.
Email me if I can be further help.

I WOULD RECOMMEND EITHER PLAZA LOS GLORIAS OR EL PRESIDENTI. THE LATER IS FUTHER FROM TOWN, BUT THE TAXI IS ONLY 4 DOLLARS. IF STAYING AT PRESIDENTI YOU WOULD BE BETTER IN THE HIGH RISE PORTIONL. THEY HAVE ONE SECTION THAT HAS ROOMS ON TWO STORIES ON A HALL WAY THAT MUST BE 200 YARDS LONG...A REAL PAIN IF YOU ARE AT THE END. NO MATTER WHERE YOU STAY...EAT IN TOWN. THE RESTUARANTS ARE GREAT AND INEXPENSIVE. THE WORSE MEALS I HAD WERE AT THE HOTELS. I WOULD RECOMMEND ALDORA DIVERS. DOVE WITH THEM IN JANUARY AND THEY ARE GREAT. SMALL GROUPS AND THEY GET TO THE BEST SITES FIRST. TAKE A DAY AND TAKE THE FERRY TO TOLUM OR ONE OF THE OTHER YUCITAN TOURS.

I am going to Cozumel over Christmas and would like recommendations on places to see, eat and play. I have never dove, but will snorkle. Any suggestions would be great.

Eat at El Moro and La Chosa. Both serve authentic regional foods that are very good and inexpensive. You need to take a cab to El Moro - about $1 from the ferry pier. The orange formica is a trip. La Chosa is near the main Plaza. Last time we were there we had some mariachis play us a song called 'Cozumel' it was a mexican ballad about the Island. You can snorkel south of town off any of the beaches, San Francisco beach is nice they have a restaurant and bar. Chankanaab Park is nice, it costs $7US/person. The only problem is that it gets very crowded due to all the cruise ships. You need to get there early if you want a chair.

Have fun Doug
