How is the Allegro Hotel Now?

I have been reading this post to get some news about the accomodations of the Allegro Hotel. Of course, I've heard good and bad reports, but a large percentage say that while the beach is beautiful, the service is slow and the hotel is run down and in need of repair. Some of these posts are a year old. I just recently saw a post saying that the hotel is now owned by Occidental Hotels. Does this mean the hotels have gone through any referbishing, (or under constrction)?

My husband and I would like to go to T&C in July and a travel agent gave us an all inclusive price with airfare for $3,500 for 7 days. Sounds great except I don't want to stay in a dirty hotel waiting hours for a meal because it's the off-season.

If it's really that bad I would gladly pay more for a better experience. But we can't afford to pay top dollar either. My Husband and I are really looking for a romantic get away, simple accomodations (but clean). Hammocks on the beach, shorts and sandles all week. Not interested in expensive resturants or casinos.

Can anyone suggest an affordable alternative? Thanks!!
Vicki, we are also looking into the Allegro and getting mixed messages on the web. A friend works with someone who just came back from a week there, and she said it was great. I even called the Allegro and they told me that the rooms were refurbished 3 years ago, all tile floors, most rooms have 2 double beds, some kings. One travel agent told me to compare it to the Divi or Tamarjin in Aruba. I have been to Aruba many times, and have seen both hotels, but not the rooms. I guess it's just an older hotel. If you find any more info, please let me know.
Thanks.

Hi, I cant give out my e-mail address because i live here on the island, but I strongly suggest you not to book at Allegro. It's a total dump! Soory to burst your bubble but the truth hurts. Why not go to Comfort Suites or Ocean Club and just go to IGA for your groceries and just eat some meals out. Dont fly all this way to go to a dumpy hotel, you'll be so dissapointed.

Had the need to respond based on the last posting. I stayed at the Allegro 2 years ago in June and enjoyed my stay. The rooms were very nice (and clean), the beach was great, the food was good and there was plenty of it. I guess it depends on your expectations, but I did not think it was a dump. I'm recently back from a stay at Long Bay in BVI and think the service and rooms at Allegra are better than Long Bay. It was my first AI vacation and probably one of my most relaxing. I do think the $3500 is high--we paid $870pp round trip from Boston. Have you looked at the luxury link site. I have seen some good off-season rates for some very nice places. Good luck.

Hi Carrie - read your thoughts on the Allegro and have a question. Why would you classify the Allegro "a dump"? I've spent the past month researching the Allegro in Turks and reading everything I could get my hands on about it, and I would say 95% of what I've read has been positive. These were reports from people who have stayed there recently - within the past two months or so. Most have been honest and said the rooms weren't anything spectacular, but that everything else, including the beautiful beach was great. I've had contact with a reservations agent at the Allegro several times over the past couple of weeks. She has been nice as pie and very helpful. So again, if you could, would you give your thoughts on exactly what it is that makes the Allegro "a dump"? Thanks....

I Didn't go into the rooms, but walked into the lobby when we went to the casino and frankly thought it looked like an airport waiting room. No charm or character whatsoever. It is on a beautiful beach but there are much nicer hotels and probably a similar pricepoint. (Sands, Ocean Club West).

I stayed there last year and there was nothing wrong with it. It was a little too large for my personal taste, too many people, but what the hell. I do think the price you are being quoted is too high. I paid less than that for 12 days.

I personally did not care for the Allegro in Aruba but T&C might be better. $3,500.00 is too high and you can find it for far less. Try SkyAuction (always has Allegro properties to bid on), Expedia or Hotwire.
The better places on T&C are Grace Bay, Meridien Club, Parrot Cay and Point Grace. I highly recommend Point Grace. Good Luck

Stayed there in march 2001 and had a great time. The beach is absolutley amazing. The food was good and the room and staff were very friendly. It tends to be loud at times because they have many activities going on, but not as loud as the Beaches resort down the road. It is a nice resort. Just got back from Allegro resort in Antigua and the resorts is better than the Allegro in T&C.

When I said I got 12 days for far less than the price quoted by the original poster, I forgot to mention that is was thru a dreaded TRAVEL AGENT too! LOL

Spent a week at Allegro 4/18/02-4/24/02.
Had a great time, not 5 star, but nice. Food was very good & plentiful, restaurants were also good, but make reservations for them your first day. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment by the staff, although it's not for everyone.
Room was fine, and kept neet & clean by housekeeping (leave a small tip) for better service.
Bar staff is slow, but who is on vacation to hurry through it anyway?
Again a tip will make sure they see you first. The bar tenders allways the same, so a $5 in the early part of the day goes a long way. Bring a large 24oz.insulated mug so you don't have to make trips to the bar often, and they will stay cold on the beach.
The beach........AHHHHHHHHHH
Have fun

We are thinking of going to the Allegro Resort Plyacar in the Mayan Riviera...anyone been there and have any comments? Thanks.

Denis May 19th, 2002 06:09 AM

I am off to Allegro in July and keep reading that reservations are essential for the speciality restaurants yet I have been viewing the webcam for months and it always looks very quiet.....anyone know the reasons?

Is the webcam a con?

Just came back from Allegro Resort T&C in April. Honestly, it's by far not a dump but then again, it's no 5 star. In fact, most tour operators give it a 4 star...I would probably say that's pretty accurate. The rooms are fine, although our bathroom had a pretty musty smell. There's the bathroom area and a sink/mirror separated by a door. We had 2 double beds. The perfect thing was that our room was ground floor (which I didn't like at first) and it was literally 15 feet from the pool. Some people with children in the same area would leave their kids in the room in the afternoon and go for a dip and conveniently walk right back into their rooms through the sliding doors. The pool was great, it was zero entry and there were elevated platforms so you could sit in the pool to cool down. The entertainment staff is mostly from the DR/Brazil..etc so there's a lot of Spanish influence in that sense. The food...not bad. The head chef is great, the Caribbean restaurant is really good. We didn't get a chance to sample the Italian restaurant as we didn't make reservations early enough. The beach is spectacular but be sure to get up early if you want shade. All in all, I would say it's a good hotel, really quiet so great for honeymooners...however, that price is pretty high. I think I have rambled on quite a bit so if you need anything else, message back and I'll give u my email.

ren
re my previous how busy was the place? WEBCAM makes it look deserted!

ang May 20th, 2002 10:50 AM

Pay no attention to the webcam, I thought the same thing before I went. The camera only shows a small section of the pool, the resort itself is so much larger, and alot more people. The webcam, makes it look like there are only a few people at the resort.

Like some of the previous reports, the Allergo, is not a dump, it's not a luxury resort, nor does it advertise to be, so with this in mind go and have a great time.

Linda May 21st, 2002 03:20 PM

Glad to see you enjoyed your vacation!

One question - did you see a "pink" building at the Allegro? If so, was it close to the beach area?

ang May 22nd, 2002 03:39 AM

The pink bldg, is the vacation resort bldg, which are the nicer rooms. It is closer to the beach, and away from the main resort (pool, dining area, bar area), which makes it nice and quiet. Some days for lunch, we would pick up cold cuts and stuff from the dining area, and take it back to our room and would have lunch on our patio. It was great!!!

Linda May 22nd, 2002 04:32 AM

Thanks for your post re: "the pink building". We have upgraded to this building for our stay at the Allegro and I hadn't read much about it. We leave one month from today - can't wait! Thanks again!
