How is St. John In July?
I am planning a trip to St. John the week of July 4th. Is St. John crowded in July? Is there anything I should know?
|
Hi Kara
Nope, not crowded at all unless you run into some cruise ship daytrippers from St. Thomas. The only surprises that you will encounter are lots of mosquitoes in some areas and be sure to wear lots of bug spray or cover up if you are on the beach at sunset or early AM to avoid attack by the terror of the Islands,"nosee'ems"(a little gnat that bites like a lion). Also be prepared for lots of humidity.I've camped on St. John a number of times in the summer and you'll,no doubt, have a great time.
Have fun !!!!!!!

I thought I had read that St. John had some type of carnival around the 4th of July. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, what does it consist of?

Carnival starts in late June and culminates on July 4th. We are going to STJ on 6/28 and returning home on 7/5. From what I've read and have been told, one of the highlights is a big parade in Cruz Bay; can get pretty crowded there during festivities. There are also fireworks on July 4th night. Lots of music, fun, costumes, mocko jumbi strolling about on their 8 foot stilts, probably lots of vendors -- food, crafts, etc. I'm really excited about the timing of our trip. Maybe we'll see you at the parade. By the way, are you staying in an inn, villa, house??? Is htis your first trip there? It is ours and I have a feeling I won't want to come home!
