"Ochi" offers the white sands and clear water expected of a Caribbean island, complete with waterfalls and rainforests. Climb the natural staircase of Dunn's River Falls, stroll the Coyaba River Gardens or take a driving tour under the lush canopy of Fern Gully. Swim with dolphins or ride horseback along plantations and beaches. Reggae fans should make the trip to Nine Mile, Bob Marley's birth and final resting place. Never found the vendors in Yelapa "HORRID" at all....guess they were on holiday when we were there, lol!

The beach was sweet, didn't have soft, powdery sand, nor "Caribbean" blue, but beautiful nonetheless.

Just back from Tulum. It has plenty of beachfront, grassroofed huts for certain. Personally, I prefer Yelapa, much less expensive, plus the topography I like(hilly, lush, cove beaches). An "each to their own" kinda thing.

I have to say that I am a little biased...I love Jamaica! Great place for a first trip to the Caribbean. I would check out Riu Ocho Rios....lots to do! Your little one will love the Dunns River Falls or swimming with the dolphins at Dolphin Cove at Treasure Reef!

Safety is a non-issue....just be alert. Forget Hawaii...beautiful but super expensive. I went to Kuai for my honeymoon and the place burnt a hole in my pocket. I was also not that impressed with the beaches. Beaches in Hawaii do often have severe drop-offs(gets deep almost instantly) but I guess that's to be expected due to the volcanoes.

Mexico...safer that Jamaica? Not in this life time! As I stated earlier, Canada has just issued a travel alert and the U.S. has issued a travel warning...a step up from an alert! Drug wars are rampant!

Try Jamaica, there are great deals to be had ...you'll be jammin, mon!

You will love the vibe.

IMO, it's never prudent to discount safety when you're vacationing in a place where the gap between the wealth of the tourists and the poverty of the natives is obvious.

Well....for what it's worth, lol! Just got home from Mexico, didn't run into any drug-lords in Tulum. (I don't doubt a few were there, wink).

Been to Jamaica, loved it as well, big fan. But it has it's "problems" the same as a lot of our vacation spots....

Do your research, be cautious, alert & act wisely, wherever you choose to go.

ps the "alert" is for certain areas...Mexico is a HUGE Country. Just like Canada. It's like saying there is trouble in Halifax so don't go to Calgary, lol! Rad
