How is Grenada?
 

I am planning a small wedding somewhere in the Caribbean and am wondering what Grenada is like?

Personally, I'd pick another beautiful Caribbean island. Grenada wasn't one of our top rated islands. Although nice, there are better in my opinion.

Erika, <BR> <BR>I was in Grenada in December for the third time, so I can answer some of your questions. Whether or not you would like Grenada, or whether its an appropriate destination for your wedding, depends on your interests, budget, patience, etc. Tell us what you like and how much you can spend, and the visitors to this board can help. <BR> <BR>Just as an FYI, unless you do have lots of money and time and patience, Grenada is a difficult place to get to, and this might deter some of your guests. When I went in December, airfare from the DC area was in excess of $800 per person, and my travel day was 17 hours from door to door. <BR> <BR>BUT, once you get there ... what a gorgeous place!! We stayed at Secret Harbour, a unique and romantic resort with a spectacular setting overlooking Mt.Hartmann Bay and the sea. This could be a lovely place for a wedding. La Sagesse Nature Center could also be beautiful, with its palm-lined beach and intimate resort and restaurant. I don't know what the regulations for marriages are, however. Keep in mind, however, that Grenada may not be for you: nature is the focus here, and so is seclusion (with the exception of pretty well-trafficked Grand Anse Beach), and this many not fit with your plans. Hi Erika: Grenada is a beautiful island but is expensive to get there. The island has lots of hiking ect and would make a great eco-tour type of vacation. We are looking at booking sandals in Jamaica for our 20th Anniversary. In their brochure I noticed that they provide FREE weddings as long as you get married after your third day on the island and you stay for a total of 5 days or more. Do not be scared off by the brochure prices we are getting ours for hundreds off the brochure price. Sandals in St. Lucia maybe just what you are looking for as St. Lucia is very similar island to Grenada. Very lush, very Caribbean, lots of other things to do like snorkling ect which are all included. Jamaica is also a very lush island similar to Grenada and there are Sandals in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay and Negril. Have a great wedding. Karen

Erika <BR> <BR>Grenada is beautiful - especially if you want to escape from the hotel-ghetto style of Caribbean island. Most of the island has been untouched by tourist development. There are some lovely properties in the south of the island (La Source, Spice Island, Calabash). However, if you want something glitzier - you might want to try Barbados etc.
