Thanks Marion. I checked the book out on Amazon last night.
Sunnyboy- Great website. Thanks so much for mentioning it. |
I just returned from the FS Nevis. I had been to Hawaii twice. I went to Maui 25 years ago and returned 2 years ago. Things had changed. Maui is no longer a quiet, unknown place. Nevis, however, is the charming, relaxing ,and the people are very friendly.Even the people working in the airport are friendly.
Pinney's Beach where the FS is located is a fine beach. The FS place chairs along the beach, every 2 chairs has a large beach umbrella so you will not burn. Please note that you will not come close to the FS experience if you stay at the Mariott. It is the difference between vintage French champagne and Korbel. |
hello to all.
I just moved to Nevis last year. My wife and I choose to live here as the people are so great. The nature is beautiful and there is more and more things to do. restaurants are good, the beaches may not be what some people look for but they are in a natural state. unspoiled by to much building. The forest and mountain are breathtaking. news about resataurants. sunshines is as always a must. bananas is closing at the end of July. I just opened my own restaurant called Coconut grove. prices range from 17 to 25 Us $ for a entree. french fusion fod wit a very local flavor. 138 labels of wine and the only draft beer on the island. Please let me know if you read this when coming in. I do recommend to visit Nevis. it is one of the last jewels around. enjoy your trip. |
Gary, we will try ad make it there :)
Gary, did you stay at the Marriott as well as teh FS to make a comaparison? It has been a littel over 10 years since I have been visited Maui, staying at the Hyatt. I remember it was gorgeous! |
Just as a corretion / update to what Gary wrote - Bananas is closing at the end of August (at the earliest.) The owner has purchased land and is building a new restaurant (which will be closer to FS and the hotels on the other side of the island.) She is due to build very soon and re-open in November or December.
Ruby - I have stayed at both FS and Marriott, I think we have talked about that. :) I do agree they are like night and day. The FS is luxury and the Marriott has the huge resort feel. The Marriott is very nice, but it is not the same level of service, amenities or food as the FS. I think you will enjoy both, but for different reasons. :) |
Sorry to be late to respond, but I just returned from my own trip to Tortola (loved it!). Knowing, it sounds like you've made a good choice with Nevis and I'll have to eat my original words of warning to you.
I hope you have a wonderful time there. I finished a book about a month ago on the history of Nevis called Ships, Swords, and Sugar. Or it might be Swords, Ships, & Sugar. It was not particularly well-written--so many vanity press pieces are not--but I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about Nevis' history. I'd recommend buying a copy from your local bookstore or ordering it from www.abebooks.com -- it's a great source for in print, out of print, and rare books. Prices almost always lower than Amazon. |
Yes MIM we did :)
I am just getting excited and looking for as much information as I soak in ;) |
Hello Ruby.
I agree that the FS is night and day with the Marriott. The FS is probably one of the most attentive hotels aroud. Their service is great and the kindness of the staff has no equal. The marriott is a more "normal" large resort. yes I heared that bananas is going to be built in the hills on the other side in "hamilton estate" I think it is too bad as bananas became a landmark restaurant over in cliftdwellers. I am sure that it will still have a great appeal to it when it moves. I do recommend to rent a car or at least to have a taxi ( they are all very friendly ) take you around the island and visit some of the charm hotels such as Hermitage.... have a relaxing vacation in nevis, thats what nevis is all about. No Stress. gary |
Hi George,
That's why I pushed so hard for Nevis. We have been to Hawaii a few times and love Kauai. I think my husband may have been disappointed with Maui. We have made one last change again though. After e-mailing back and forth to Montpelier a couple of times and after looking at the pool at the FS again, my husband decided he would rather book at the FS after all. So, now we are just waiting on the air and hotel prices. For some reason, we get them later than the rest of the country. Sun Country and US Air are the only ones posted yet. Looks as though we are going to have to fly Mpls - Chicago - San Juan - Nevis. We're contemplating flying elsewhere, even overnighting and then flying out if it would be easier. EJ - Glad to hear you liked Tortola. Did you eat at Bradywine? No need to eat your words. I like your vitality and I would rather that you alert me to the possiblity that because we didn't like St. Lucia, that your opinion is that a week in Nevis could make us crabby. It has made us do more research on this island than anywhere else this far ahead. We really liked the idea that Montpelier didn't allow kids under the age of 8. That was a huge plus. But we weighed both places, and my husband had fallen deeply in love with the pool at the FS, so he will be happy there. I'm leaning very heavily on others opinions that people are very friendly and am choosing to go on this vacation and hope that we come home happy. And we still may not. But, I have a good feeling. |

You may want to stay in Miami. There is a non-stop flight Via American to St. Kitts which leaves from Miami at approximately 11am. If you can fly freom mlps non-stop to Miami, this may be viable. We once did this for another trip. We stayed at the Sofitel Airport Hotel and received good service.
|
That is what we are doing, we are driving to Miami teh night before and staying at a nearby hotel (1mile away) that participates in the Park/Fly/Stay program. We can park our car there up to 14 days for free. This works out great because parking at MIA is $$
|
Thank you. I think that may be one solution for us to look at. I would rather fly directly into Nevis, but am open to any and all suggestions.
