How about St. Lucia in late October?
 

We are thinking of going to St. Lucia for a week in late October and staying at the East Winds Inn. All of our previous trips to other islands in the Caribbean have been in February-March. What kind of weather are we likely to run into there in late October? Also,will we be at the tail end of the Atlantic hurricane season by then?

Yes, it is still hurricane season which runs to the end of November
Usually in October, if there are storms they form in the Caribbean or GOM. The Cape Verde season where the storms come across the Atlantic from Africa and slam into the islands is virtually over at that time.
You never know of course but the odds of no hurricanes in St. Lucia in late October are definitely in your favor.

Late October is a great time to visit St Lucia - yes still in hurricane season, but weather should be pretty good otherwise and the island won't be as busy as during the high season of December-April.

Unfortunately, there is no real answer to this question. You can ask it a million different ways and look at all the stats that exist, but the bottom line is that the weather is going to be what it is when you get there. Regardless of whether it's hurricane season, it's also the rainy season (travel insurance/hurricane guarantees do not cover you). That being said, you could still have a great week of weather. Hurricane season last year went through December (or was that the year before? I don't remember). The only question you need to ask yourself is whether you will have a good time regardless of the weather and is it worth the risk to YOU. if you are too worried about it, go during dry season (December through May). But it could still rain. Just plan it and go around your schedule and budget or whatever criteria you place most important. St. Lucia is gorgeous, rain or shine. I went the first week of November and it rained 2 days with brief showers on others and event ruined one snorkeling trip, but I had a blast.
