Hotels in Old San Juan

Ok, I need a straight answer: What's the best, reasonably priced (below $150/night) hotel in Old San Juan?

Hi everybody,
Answers in the affirmative would be helpful. Thanks.

Affirmative is hard to do if the ONLY place you've stayed in OSJ turned out to be not so nice. Maybe if someone would have told me it wasn't so nice, I might have saved some money and stress. Now the rest of the island is a different story...

Kay, the nicest place in the Old City is the Hotel El Convento. Try and get a discount. If not I highly recommend that you stay at a small inn in the Condado area. It's just 5 minutes across the bridge, like everyone else does.

I agree with the prior post. We spent 3 days at the Gallery Inn in Jan. It is small, reasonably priced, and very homey. We had one of their smaller rooms and it was $95 per night. They have a total of about 23 rooms. There are many courtyards, balconies, decks, and it is full of artwork and pet parrots. Here is their web address: http://www.thegalleryinn.com/

Hi,
I've been and back and ended up staying in Condado instead at the Marriott. Busted my budget but had a ball. Had a lovely time and visited Old San Juan several times. Wonderful sites, shopping , restaurants and people.

Hampton Inn - 791-8777
Travelodge - 728-1300
Miramar - 722-6231

All Area codes (787) I would recommend Canraio or the chains. The rest I dont know about. I just looked up my Que Pasa magazine. E-mail if you want more info.

I can't speak about the other Canario's but I'm going to have to disagree with Mr. Iglesias: NO ONE should stay in that roach motel otherwise known as El Canario By the Sea. Great location, horrible place to stay. I checked in, flipped on the lights and it was straight out of that movie "Creepshow" -- cucharachas everywhere. I repeat: DON'T stay at El Canario by the Sea.

If you want a nice, cheap hotel in Condado go to the Comfort Inn Tanama Princess. It costs the same as El Canario by the Sea and you'll have the peace of mind of staying in a clean, modern but inexpensive place. Plus, it's across the street from the excellent restaurant Ajili Mojili.

Sorry, in my earlier post I forgot about the money issue.I have the place for you. A clean, classically restored building in the heart of Old San Juan. It's called Hotel Milano. It overviews the harbor and all cruise ships and it will cost between $75-$105.It has a small bar and grill and up-to-date features. This is a better choice for your money than all of the above. I do highly recommend the Gallery Inn as well.Have a great trip.
