I'd like to give encourgement to anyone thinking of taking a family trip. It is possible. I hope I don't come across superior. I only want to give my opionion because our family trips have made so many memories and because they are so important to me. After my mother died 10 years ago, I had a wake-up call and decided life is short. We have 2 daughters, two wonderful son-in-laws, and 4 grandchildren We are ages 10 to 64. We go on a trip at least once a year, although we will do two this year (Just got back from a seven day houseboat trip--definitely a close family trip). I plan all the trips and pay for everything. My husband and I are very lucky that we can pay for the trips and that may be part of the key to a family trip. We all decide where we might like to go, but I mainly pick destinations and resorts. The other key is to have a family that might have disagreements, but quickly get over it and do not hold any grudges. I guess what it boils down to is that everyone is grateful to be able to do these trips and want to continue. I don't know how you know before the first trip how it will turn out. I think it is worth the trying because of all the rewards. Again, the purpose of my post is to say I'd try a family trip once to see how if it works.
