Has anyone stayed here? If so, is it nice, location great, etc?

I haven't stayed at HHL, but did have a drink there in November. The property is freshly re-painted since the hurricanes of 2004, and looks great. And the location can't be beat: right on a stunning ocean beach, with what I'm told is a good snorkeling reef just offshore, but a short (really short) walk to the heart of Hopetown and the harbor. (I've heard mixed reviews of the food, but it's such a short walk to other restaurants, and Vernon's grocery, that it probably won't matter much.)

I've never stayed at HHL, but have visited the premises many times. Hope Town is a picturesque settlement, which smacks of a New England fishing village with colorful, clapboard houses. HH Lodge is rustic, situated on the calm Sea Of Abaco, with the pool and poolside bar across a narrow golf cart path on the Atlantic side. I did do several reef fish surveys on the reef just offshore (begins only 20 feet out) from the pool area. You can easily walk around the Hope Town on the cement path and enjoy the restored houses. There are several walkways to the Atlantic Ocean stretch of beach, and you can view it from atop a hillside. Beautiful long stretch of beach with talcum-powdered pink sand. There's two grocery stores that I remember; Harbour View and Vernon's 'Grocery, where you can get breads and pies baked daily. A plethora of gift shops: Ebb Tide, Kemp's, Island Gallery, El Mercado, Fantasy Boutique, etc. You can rent a bike at HH Lodge or golf cart from Island Car Rentals. Definately ride over to Tahiti Beach, about a mile and a half from HH Lodge. It's a beautiful, palm-lined beach where the Tillo Cut provides a steady in and out tidal stream. HINT: Bring your snorkeling gear. looking out from Tahiti Beach, you'll notice an oval-shaped rock formation about a hundred feet across. It's in only 3-4 feet of water. Snorkeling totally around this rock formation. I track reef fish at this spot and have seen hundreds of Blue-stripped grunts, moray eels, barracuda, angel fish, yellow-tail snappers, parrot fish, tiger grouper...the list goes on. Also, snorkeling along the Tahiti Beach and adjacent Dorros Cove shoreline is full of some nice reef fish and corals. Robert

We stayed at HHL two years ago. I was a bit disappointed (though the price was great). We had a third floor room and the view was decent. We could partially see the ocean and had a nice view of the harbor. However the room was tiny and there was no closet. There were a few hangers in the bathroom. We had to keep everything in our bags. The shower was terrible. No water pressure at all and several times it stopped flowing alltogehter. The bathroom overall is something I was not happy about at all (small outdated/not very clean looking). The pool is very small. The bar is nice (it closes around 5-6pm) and the restaurant was good. The beach is fabulous. The location also is very convinient as its in the center of town. There also are a couple other restaurants in walking distance. You must rent a golf cart and go to Tahiti beach (beautiful shallow water for several hundred yards). I also recommend a day trip to great guana cay if you have enough time. We really enjoyed Abacos/Elbow Cay. The only problem is that the hotels are very basic. Hope this helps.

great info!!!!!!thanks so much!!!! We have a boat so can go everywhere. Did you see the beach cabana rooms, thats what I booked, not in main building. I hear they did some renovation on the property..I hope the cabanas are nicer?

I did not see the beach cabana rooms from the inside. They looked nice from the outside and are closer to the beach (almost on the beach) and pool area than the main lodge. They were full when we booked HHL. The abacos are a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay on Elbow Cay.
