Honeymoon: USVI vs BVI...advice needed!

Hi everyone,

I've been doing some research on this board trying to determine where my fiance and I should go on our honeymoon. We are leaning towards Peter Island Resort (maybe with a two-night stay in st thomas on one end), USVIs, Anguilla, St Barts (sounds lovely, but may be way out of our price range) St Vincent or Young Island Resort.

Here's the scoop. We are going the second week of November and seeking BLUE, CLEAR water and white sand beaches! We would like some sort of night-life, but it doesn't have to be entertainment/club atmosphere. A small pub or neighborhood bar would suit us fine--just somewhere to relax and have drinks after dinner. We are trying to stay under $3500 for 5-7 nights (and hoping to stay quite a bit under that if meals aren't included in the hotel's price). We prefer a more upscale hotel (as ooposed to motel six's) since it is our honeymoon.

Any advice you can give based on the above mentioned places (and how well you think they would suit our needs) would be greatly appreciated! Oh--and one more thing, I would prefer an island that is less "bugg-y" than others--not too fond of 6-8 legged creatures.

Thanks so much in advance for any help!! We really appreciate it!

As a villa owner in the BVI's I know all the places you are thinking about for your honeymoon quite well. First: go to the BVI's, there you'll find deserted beaches, very friendly people and two great resorts: Peter Island and Little Dix Bay - both would be exactly what you are looking for! Peter Island Resort is located on a private island, Little Dix Bay is located on Virgin Gorda, close to a little village called Spanish Town. Little Dix Bay (Virgin Gorda) and Caneel Bay (St.John) belong to one company, they offer packages of staying in both resorts for a few days.

We were in St. Vincent at Young Island this past April. It was great and we'll return to visit again as a week wasn't enough time to see all of St.Vincent. That said, if you want white sand beaches, you will be disappointed. The beach on Young Island was light brown and St. Vincent had some gorgeous black sand beaches. The water at Young Island wasn't as calm as I expected when compared to other Caribbean islands.

KatitichePoint and Debbie,

Thank you both for your input. Debbie, I think you are right and that we might want to steer away from Young Island...Katitiche--have you been to Peter Island? We are leaning towards Peter Island Resort, but don't want to leave any stones unturned.

Thanks so much for your replies!!

Reviews of the resorts you are considering can be found at www.scubamom.com/caribbean/ and also at www.scubatreks.com - take the links.

All the resorts you mentioned are good for different reasons.

Second week of November is usually very nice in the Caribbean - rainy season is ending, although you may have some brief tropical showers.

Check the packages for each resort - they can often be at savings over daily rates.

I was in Tortola last year and stayed at Long Bay. One of our day trips was to Peter Island. We spent the day there at the beach where we had lunch and then went to the hotel for a few drinks before catching the boat back to town. It was an incredible place and, if I could ever afford it, I would go back for sure. But, I think you might be disappointed with the night life. There was a very nice open air bar, if you wanted night life you would need to take the boat to Tortola.
