Honeymoon...need suggestions
Hello. I am planning a honeymoon for the end of May 2006, for about a week. I am looking for a resort, preferably few children, with a nice(not rocky) beach. I like the idea of all-inclusive, but I don't want a flashy, party-type resort. We will be departing from NYC, so if possible we would like an island that isn't too difficult or expensive to fly to. Does anyone know of a resort that fits the bill? Thanks!!

friends of mine just returned from a honeymoon at couples swept away on jamaica. they said it was fabulous. good beach, very romantic.
in general you should look at couples resorts & sandals resorts. these are both adults only, all-inclusive resorts with locations all over the caribbean and maya riviera. in particular you might look at the club med on provo. it is an adults only one and grace bay beach is one of the most beautiful in the world (and has sand that is the nicest i've ever felt - almost like talcum powder!). they do not have the most romantic atmosphere though, its a little more on the party side, but i still think you might like it. congratulations and good luck with your planning. |
Try Sandals Negril it is a super resort. Great beach and very romantic. Just a very laid back carefree resort.

Two friends had honeymooned on St Lucia. Maybe try there?

Barbados. It's about a 5 hour flight, non-stop from JFK. It's a fairly small island and easy to explore. The beaches on the west coast are beautiful and there is very good snorkling right off-shore.
As for a resort for your honeymoon, I'd suggest the Coral Reef Club. I spent my honeymoon there four years ago and would go back tomorrow if I could. It's small, family owned and just incredible. It allows children, but there are rarely many there. CRC is not an all-inclusive, but the restaurant on-site is wonderful and there are a number of outstanding restaurants on the island. Best wishes on the upcoming wedding. |
Thanks to all...I am checking these all out!

There is a resort on South Andros Island that is not flashy and has the most amazing beach ever. You can fly JetBlue from NYC for a very low price into Nassau and then it is just a short flight from Nassau. As far as other activities or trip planning goes, there is a local that could do it all for you and work with you to plan the trip you want. He is very easy to get ahold of and it's so nice to be able to talk to a real person to get things set. www.androsdiving.com

Friends of mine just returned from the Royal Hideaway Playacar Resort in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. The raved about how beautiful and lovely it was. No kids under 13 allowed. Very upscale & gorgeous beaches. Playa del carmen a few minutes away & cancun about 1 hour. Easy flights from NYC to Cancun. Probably could get good airfare on Spirit.

Nisbet Plantation is an excellent recommendation - we stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it! The friendliest service, and people, we ever encountered anywhere!
Another good place, and one which does lots of weddings - is Cap Juluca on Anguilla. The beach there is absolutely stunning, and the resort is quiet with not too many children. Definitely not 'flashy'. |
Sandals Negril...Perfect resort!

You might try Harbour Island which is pretty easy to get to. From Nassau it is a very short flight or a fast ferry ride.
Runaway Hill, (www.runawayhill.com) is now owned by Mark Messier of the New York Rangers, and has completely redone the resort and I understand it is even nicer than the previous owners and it was amazing then. The same cook is there and the food is legendary on island. Sit at breakfast and you overlook the pool, and beach, heavenly french toast and fresh papaya. There are no kids at Runaway and we like that we can go down to the pool late at night. Try these sites as well. www.rockhousebahamas.com www.romorabay.com www.coralsands.com There is also a bit of shopping and several great restaurants on island as well as one of the 10 best beaches in the world (as per Island Magazine) Have a wonderful time. |
