Honeymoon location?? -St. Martin, Antigua or Turks and Caicos

My fiancee and I are looking for an amazing beach to lounge at. Preferably no kids... sorry, not looking forward kids doing cannon bombs in the pool. We would be going begining of Januray, we know it's high season. We're trying to stay in a $6k budget for the both of us. We would be flying out of Miami. From what we read, it seems that Turks and Caicos has great beaches and is one of the most secluded ones. We are looking for some partying, bot not much. Most just relaxing at the beach all day. Any input will be appreciated.

T&C is the perfect place for a honeymoon IMO. There isn't a lot of nighlife but the Infinity Bar at Grace Bay Club, live bands/singers at O'Soleil and Hemingways are fun. Check out The Somerset and Regent Palms.

Going to the Turks and Caicos might be rolling the dice a bit weather wise in early January. You seem to be from Florida and the occasional cold fronts you live through every January will only be a little bit warmer (5-7 F) in the T & C's. Go farther south and you will eliminate this variable from your honeymoon plans.

Good point, Spook. Anguilla would fit the bill perfectly...amazing beaches and restaurants...but even less nightlife than T&C. But you could take the ferry to St. Martin.

i like provo but think the ocean temp can be a bit cool if you plan to snorkel for hours at a time. it's fine for a swim.
lots of nice resorts, very good restaurants, not much nightlife. grace bay beach is gorgeous and the water is an amazing tourquoise color.
antigua has a more lush look and would be lovely for a honeymoon. several very nice resorts & has a few more activities should you choose to go out during the day. 365 beaches so you can stay for a year :)
coconut bay, the sandals, galley bay & hermitage bay are all adults only. you can daytrip to barbuda.
in jan though kids should be in school except for the precannon ball age ones.
you might look at caneel bay on st.john, usvi - it would stretch the budget a tad but it's a wonderful & romantic place and st. john has a few bars that are fun at night.

Definitely Turks! Beaches and water are beautiful! St.Martin is BUSY! I think the crime is up as well on the island. Turks is defintely a flatter island and not the lush rolling hills. But the beaches and water are exquisite! I have not been to Antigua so not sure how to compare. Now, if you want my honest opinion on a place to go, ST Barts all the way!! Have fun!

It's already been established that T&C is probably not warm enough in Jan.

Antigua has very beautiful beaches, it is not a flat dry island but does not have rolling hills like St Lucia. The beaches is what it is about. Look at Galley Bay or Cocobay (no kids under 12) which is on a gorgeous bay with turquoise water. There will be some nightlife around Jolly Harbour which is close to Cocobay but mostly it is centred around Shirley Heights, apart from that there isn't any to speak of. There are many other hotel options if you check out tripadvisor eg Curtain Bluff, Hermitage or Carlisle that might be suitable

Odin, how is it established that T&C is not warm enough in Jan.? By whom?

I have been to T&C the last 12 years every January and have had terrific weather. I get in the ocean and swim. 90% of the time it's been in the 80's, with mid-70's at night, which is perfect.

In 12 years, I did have 1 bad luck, it was this past year, it was unusually rainy for 4 days in a row-which had never happened. On the other hand, I went to Antigua one January for a week, and it also rained 4 days in a row. I've had wash out days in St. Martin too.

If everyone is going to predict the weather here, lets not cut down an another island to do your case, unless you have first hand experience. I love that everyone feels passionate about "their" particular island, but I don't get the "go here instead to have better weather" when weather just happens.

I sound like I'm preaching, I don't mean offense. Just can't guarantee weather anywhere. I can only tell you of my last 12 years of experience in T&C. I have also combine my T&C trips with other islands farther South. Most trips I've been lucky and had decent weather. But in my experiences, the "hilly" islands have had more washout days in January than T&C.

Antigua is known for it's beaches and great swimming. It also has interesting food, imaginative drinks, and beach dining in a romantic setting. Great island! We have been there a couple of times.

Agree with Blamona--we have been many times in January to Turks & Caicos --warm enough to swim in the ocean and sweat while sitting in the sun, also 2nd The Somerset idea--my fav resort anywhere. www.thesomerset.com
