Honeymoon in September
My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for the first week of September of 2006. From what we have heard & read St. Lucia is relatively hurricane-free. Does anyone have any feeback on this.
As far as places to stay on St. Lucia we have it narrowed down to about three places the Oasis Marigot, Windjammer Landing, and Ti Kaye. I have heard a lot of different things (both good & nad) about each of these places. We are interested in a villa with a plunge pool. We are interested in relaxing by a pool or on a beach, and eating some good food. Feedback on any of these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
Be careful, the island gets hit pretty hard by hurricanes from time to time. Hurricane Debbie was the last occurrence.

What you have heard and read is correct -- because it is so far south, the island is relatively hurricane-free. However, the key word is "relatively" because it is not completely out of the so-called hurricane belt. Occasionally storms do venture that far south, as evidenced by the fact that Hurricane Ivan hit Grenada a couple of years ago and Grenada is about a hundred miles or so south of St. Lucia. Argus is right -- Debbie was the last hurricane to actually hit St. Lucia, but I'm pretty sure that that was more than 15 years ago. So, it is highly unlikely, but not impossible, that a storm would hit the island during the week that you will be there.

Hurricane Ivan was a narrow miss in the 2004 Hurricane Season. It was due to hit directly on St Lucia but changed course at the last minute and hit Grenada instead.
That said, many people do take holidays in September without incident so go for it! |
JXS, is your heart set on St. Lucia? Perhaps Aruba might ease your mind as they are out of the hurricane zone. The last thing that you need to worry about on your honeymoon and leading up to it is dreaded hurricane! Congrats on your upcoming marriage!
