Honeymoon in March 2004

We are getting married mid-March next year so we need to make sure we honeymoon somewhere that is not swarming with spring-breakers! My fiance and I have free tickets on AA to go anywhere in the Caribbean or Mexico (we live in PHL). We've heard that Anguilla is beautiful, but we are looking for an island that is off the beaten path but still has fun restaurants and sightseeing, so we can break up our relaxation time with activities. Nothing too touristy. Also, since the flight is free we are willing to splurge a bit on a great hotel. We could even split our trip (7-10 days) amongst a couple of islands.

Any suggestions? I have heard great things about St. John, Grand Cayman, and Nevis...

Our first trip to the Caribbean a number of years ago, we had 10 days. We flew into St. Martin (direct flight from Philly) & hopped an 8-seater to St. Barts -- very French, great shopping, good food, GORGEOUS! After 5 days, we jumped in a plane & went to Anguilla -- British, no shopping to speak of, 33 of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see, world class restaurants, flat & scrubby.

We loved the contrasts & did it 2 more times before we simply settled in to Anguilla (oh, those beaches!!). Check out the links at the top of the page at www.news.ai

BTW, both islands are small (4,000 people on St Barts; 10,000 on Anguilla); not touristy; and neither has large hotels (small resorts & villas dominate). Enjoy!

If the free tickets are an essential part of the trip and if you are locked into a particular week (which I assume you are since it is your wedding) I suggest you call American and ask them what is available first and let that help you determine. I just booked a free ticket to Mexico for next April and had difficulty getting exactly what I wanted -- these tickets go very fast and about 9 - 12 months ahead of time.

rwilliams,

hello,

I will ask this again, as I did on a previous post of yours... where is the advertising?

I_am_anonymous Aug 27th, 2003 04:24 AM

There was advertising in this post (from a Caribbean booking agency) that Fodors deleted. Fodors does monitor the boards for advertising, as I have seen them delete other posts in the past.

I recommend Nevis or St. Kitts.
