Honeymoon help! Looking for a Beach Bungalow June 2014

My fiancé and I are looking for the perfect beach honeymoon getaway, preferably in the Carribean but we are open to any beautiful beach.

We are looking for a bungalow on the beach, preferably a plunge pool. Good food is alsoimportant.

Places we do not want to go are Meixco, Aruba, Puerto Rico.

Just to give you an idea, The Rockhouse in Negril, Jamaica is one of our favorite places but it lacks a beach.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Christophe Harbour on St. Kitts has 4 "bungalows" that come close to what you are seeking (www.christopheharbour.com/visit/accommodations/) but they are in a very remote areas - 25 to 30 minute drive to "town". Nothing else on the island comes close.

On Nevis there are no "beachfront bungalows" but if you'd consider renting a small remote private villa that sites on a bluff atop a very secluded beach check out Black Sand Cove Villa (www.blacksandcove.com). You might also want to check out the Condos at Nelson Springs ( http://nelsonspringbeachresort.com) or Seaside Condos at Cliffdwellers (http://www.cliffdwellers.org/index3.html) however these are waterfront, not beachfront - Note: The beach in the photo on the website is not actually the beach for the property.

There are no beachfront bungalows on Anguilla but check out Cap Juluca Resort (www.capjuluca.com) or Shoal; Bay Villas (www.sbvillas.ai).

Not on your "short list" of islands but check out Petit St. Vincent Resort (www.petitstvincent.com) - it might be exactly what you are seeking.

Also look at Cayo Espanto in Belize (www.aprivateisland.com) or Cape Santa Maria on Long island, Bahamas (www.capesantamaria.com).

Hope this helps.

thank you so much! This is very helpful though a few of these are out of our budget. We are open to any other islands not on my "short list" as well.

the rates at Christophe Harbour on St. Kitts seem too good to be true! Has anyone you been there?

Yes, I've been there. The bungalows are small but tastefully furnished. One thing you have to understand, Christophe Harbour is not a resort. It's a 2500 acre private housing community that is still relatively new and under construction. When completed it will have a golf course, marina and, of course, lots of private villas. Think along the the lines of a mini version of the planned seaside communities you find on Hilton Head Island, Kiawah Island and Wild Dunes in South Carolina.

The four bungalows are located on the Turtle Beach portion of the development which is at the very southern tip of St. Kitts. Right now there are 8 or so private villas in the immediate surrounding area and a building that housed the Beach House Restaurant (no longer in daily operation but used occasionally for "special events"). There are a few more villas plus a restaurant in the "Phase 2 section" of the development which is about 3/4 of a mile down the road. There are no "resort facilities" at Christophe Harbour and no "facilities" other than the 4 bungalows on Turtle Beach. It's a very quite area and you are likely to have the beach all to yourselves or share it just with people staying in the other bungalows or private villas. While the beach is 'just OK" (it's one of the smaller and narrower beaches on the island) it does have stunning views of neighboring Nevis.

Cockleshell Beach, which is popular with the cruise ship crowds and locals alike is about 1/2 mile or so away. There you'll find Spice Mill Restaurant, Reggae Beach Bar and Lion's Beach Bar. You can rent Seadoos, Hobie Cats, go flyboarding, kayaking, and take Banana Boat Rides, etc. from Reggae Beach Bar.

There is NOTHING ELSE in the area.

The nearest convenience and some restaurants are in Frigate Bay, about a 20 minute drive from Turtle Beach. The nearest grocery store is on the outskirts of Basseterre about a 25 to 30 minute drive.

You mentioned that some of the other places I suggested are "out of your budget". If you give us some idea of what your budget actually is I and others won't waste your time (and ours) making suggestions you can't afford.

OOPS! The first sentence in the second to last paragraph should read "The nearest convenience store..."

You didn't mention Grenada, but both LaLuna and Spice Island Resort have plunge pools. We stayed at both when we went to Grenada a few years ago, and loved both places.

$10k for a week is a generous budget for June. You should find plenty of places.

Look into renting a private villa. Often they give discounts if only two people are staying at the property. There are some fantastic upscale rental villas ( both beachfront and beach access) at Mahoe Bay on Virgin Gorda - some will rent for under $1,000/ night in June. The beach there is about 3/4 mile long with light golden sand and is very private. The calm waters are crystal clear with an excellent snorkeling reef that spans the entire bay and starts just 100 feet or so offshore. The villas all have a western exposure so you get spectacular views of neighboring islands and the setting sun. Simply put, it just doesn't get any better anywhere in the Caribbean. Google "Mahoe Bay Rental Villas, Virgin Gorda" for lots of links.
