Honeymoon Help in Carribean!!
 

We will be traveling to the Carribean in August(hurricane season)We are considering Aruba only because its out hurricane territory, Anguilla, Four Seasons in Nevis, Ritz in St. Thomas or T & C- Since its our honeymoon we are looking for a beautiful resort, restaurants, beautiful beaches, and some activity at night- My fiancee and I love the beach but also, like to get out and explore, and socialize - What would you do ....

I'd choose the island and resort that most interested me. The risk of a hurricane in August throughout the Caribbean, while it exists, is relatively low.

FYI - Of the islands on your list St. Thomas and Aruba will have the most nightlife. Anguilla and Nevis will be very "quiet" as they are not know for their nightlife even during "high season". They will be even quiter during August - many restaurants and resorts will be closed (although Four Seasons is open).

If by the T&C's you mean Providenciales, that destination too will be relatively quiet. The other islands in the chain (except Grand Turk) will be virtually devoid of anything. Grand Turk will be quite as there are no major resorts. It caters to the diving crowd.

We've been to Aruba, Anguilla, and Provo on T&C, and would recommend any one of them for different reasons. For a honeymoon, I would definitely choose Anguilla, though, except it doesn't really have any nightlife. The restaurants and beaches, however, and outstanding.

Nevis is more difficult to get to, but they have some striking scenery - and you will find it a very rewarding destination for your effort. The FS has a great staff and and remarkable grounds. The people of Nevis are very charming.

Thank you for the information. Of course with all the bad weather in the news I would hate to have our honeymoon canceled. Because its the off season will a lot of the restaurants be closed and as for the resorts less people in Nevis and Anguilla -

Aside from Christmas/New Year's, Easter Week and President's Week Nevis and Anguilla are never very crowded. There are even less tourists on those islands in August. On occasion Four Seasons may be 75% to 100% book if a major corporation is hosting a big convention at the resort. The odds of that happening in August though are small. You'll fine a lot of solitude on both islands in August.

Whether "a lot" of restaurants on either island may be closed in August depends on your definition of "a lot". Suffice to say some restaurants and resorts will be closed and some will operated reduced hours or be open only certain days of the week. It's difficult to give you a list as one never knows what will be open during any given week. You won't go hungry as there will be plenty of places to dine on eaither island - you just won't have the same wide selection as you would during "high season".

The Caribbean basin is big and islands are small. The odds of a major storm striking a particular island during one specific week in August are relatively small. To put things in perspective, more hurricanes strick the coast of Florida that affect any one particular island.

Grenada is a beautiful island with tons to explore and it is out of most hurricane ranges.

Sorry but what beachbum2 says is a little misleading. Grenada does get hit by hurricanes and tropoical storms. There have been 6 since 2000, one Ivan in 2004 was a Cat 4 and particularily devestating. Emily a Cat 2 struck in 2005 and last year Tropical Storm Felix made landfall.
