Honeymoon Help - Bermuda?
I am trying to find a honeymoon spot. I don't want to worry about drinking the water, beggers, dangerous areas (so no Mexico or Jamaica) We are thinking about Bermuda.

Is it nice in October, or is it too chilly to enjoy the beach?

Are there hurricane threats there in Oct.?

Any advice on where to stay - what about the Pompano Beach in Bermuda?

Thanks.

We have vacationed in Bermuda the last week of October. Enjoyed the beach but the locals thought we were crazy. Needed to wear sweater/pants in the evening. Most of the tour operators are closed unless you are there when the cruise ships are still visiting. Bermuda is a wonderful, safe haven. I haven't stayed an any resorts, but have visited Aerial Sands which is quite a lovely spot directly on a private beach.

Bermuda is very nice, clean, and expensive. No beggars and not much crime.
October is the tail end of hurricane season-keep that in mind, but rates will be lower. I travelled there in Aug.2001 on a cruise from NY and was very dissapointed. 4 days was long enough for me.
If you want to sight see, book tours. Don't do it on your own. My fiance and I got stranded in the middle of the island because none of the local buses would stop for us at the bus stops until a local flagged one down for us. ( there wasn't a cab in sight) It is nothing like the carribean.
The island is very expensive and has a very high standard of living. It is made very obvious by the locals walking around with their noses in the air towing their children with the nannies behind them.
If your going to spend a couple of grand on a vacation, go to a nicer carribean island. (st.barths, nevis, etc..)
If you're worried about hurricanes - Aruba is your best bet. It is way out of the hurricane belt. You can stay at at the Raddisson for under 2K per week

Have been to Bermuda many many times and love this little gem of a sophisticated island. We have gone many times in September and now we love October. We are beach people and the water is still nice and warm! It is the tail end of hurricane season, so the threat would still be there, athough mid September is peak. I love Bermudas beaches, winding lanes, lovely gardens, and beautiful homes! I still always enjoy Bermuda, and think their beaches are the best! We travel throughout the Caribbean, Antigua, St. John, Barbados, Virgin Gorda and Anguilla! Pompano is very nice, also The Reef, Cambridge Beachee, Pink Beach and Ariel Sands.

Geez, Steve, you sound like you have a huge chip on your shoulder for some reason. That's a very odd set of reasons to dislike Bermuda.
Horrors that an island nation should be so well run that people are well off, fully employed and there's no poverty or beggars.
Horrors that they don't feel the need bow down to the great American tourist and sell out for your money.
Bermuda is a wonderfully successful little country and deserves much credit for this.
Compare with Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Thomas etc etc etc.
Kudos to Bermuda!

Bermuda is a beautiful place, I got married there 6 years ago and have been back 3 times. WE also took a cruise there and my only disappointment wsa that I was staying on the ship and not in Bermuda. I like the larger hotels but we always ride the scooters and check everything out on the island. YOu can't go wrong it truely has the best beaches !!!
I have also been to many caribbean islands so I do have alot to compare it too. Enjoy !!

I've been to Bermuda twice and would say that I am very surprised at Steve's experience. Steve: where were you when the buses "passed you by"?? We used the buses extensively and never had a problem. As far as the locals go, I found them to be very civil and polite. One woman picked us up at a bus stop (it was Sunday, so the buses were less frequent) and gave us a ride into Hamilton.

It's too bad you had a bad time, but I don't think that it's a typical experience.
