Honeymoon Help...

We are trying to plan our honeymoon...
We want seclusion, little to no night-life, beautiful beaches and great food. We are travelling in September which poses several problems:
1) Hurricane season
2) Places that we would really like to stay are closed: Mayreau, Cotton House, Peter Island.

We were thinking of La Luna in Grenada but someone told us that vendors are aggressive, etc. I am also not so sure about the beaches there. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Another thought is PSV - but I've read generally mixed reviews on this place. Someone wrote something about having to walk out over the water, past coral, in order to swim, etc. and the food being so-so. Comments on this?

Yet another option is a week-long boat charter. We thought we could island hop along the grenadines. This seems very expensive, and I worry about hurricane season with this option - rough waters, etc.

We've already been to Young Island and we LOVED it - so we would like a similar experience.

Thanks so much for your help!
You could research places to stay in beautiful Bermuda which is definitely quiet--Reef Club etc. Also look into Bonaire which is not in the hurricane belt and can be very quiet--underwater activities is the draw here.
If you want to travel further than the Kohala district in the big island of Hawaii is hard to beat or in Europe, Palma Majorca in Spain.

We just returned from our honeymoon in St. Lucia. We too had difficutly choosing, which is why I am taking the time to reply to your message. LaSport may be just what you are looking for. However, if you are looking for something a little less expensive or a little less hilly, Rendezvous is the way to go. A beach cottage at Rendezvous is the BEST, if you don't mind a small resort without the glitz. The ONLY possible downfall is, more than one week at the resort may be too long. We also went to Sandals -- I would not spend another dime at Sandals. I know people who enjoyed Sandals very much (the small one - Halcyon, the new one at Pigeon Point, and the golf resort - La Toc) but they were way too commercial and impersonnal for my taste. St. Lucia is wonderful! I highly recommended it. We just went in October and loved it. Hurricanes are rarely a problem, as the island is more southern than they generally hit. I never found mosquitos to be a problem like some people mentioned. The beaches are beautiful. We saw many rainbows. You MUST take a day tour with TRIM tours to Maria Island - it is the most informative, fun, and under-rated tour on the island. Good Luck!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please don't be scared off by someone stating that vendors in Grenada are aggressive - they are no more aggressive than vendors elsewhere in the Caribbean. And La Source is a fabulous resort and Spa that is on a private beach. Additionally, Spice Island resort is lovely with private plunge pools. And Grenada is by far one of the most perfect islands I have been to. I have been to 12. And the beachs were fantastic, especially considering you don't have to scrimp on rainforest and lushness and the awe inspiring geography. I am going to St. Lucia on my Honeymoon, partly because when I booked Grenada was not available. I hear it is also divine!!

Have fun

Wow, thanks for all these great ideas...

Lola - we've actually already been to Bermuda and are eager to try something new. I thought about Spain too - do you recommend a specific place in Majorca?

Mrss - Thanks for taking the time to answer. Having just come back from your honeymoon, you can understand how hard it is do this and plan a wedding. Congrats to you by the way! Yes, I agree - I think Sandals is exactly the opposite of what we are interested in. I am sorry for being ignorant, but are LaSport and Rendevouz in Grenada?

Sheila - I read about La Source but we were looking into La Luna as it just seemed dreamy. How would you compare the two places? I will also have to look into Spice Island? I did read that you could do chocolate factory tours in Grenada - which would be reason enough for me to go! My concern with aggressive people is because living in NYC, I want to be as far away from aggressiveness as possible on my honeymoon - know what I mean?

Thanks all for replying!

Lauren, Grenada would be a great honeymoon, and not typically in the hurricane belt path (altho tropical storms can wind up anywhere in the Caribbean). Grenada has pretty beaches, and when you get off the plane, the aroma of spice is everywhere. Vendors are not aggressive and are usually found mostly in the marketplace; the people there are very pleasant and appreciate the tourism.

Spice Island is VERY nice and some rooms have their own plunge pools, beside the main pool and the pretty Anse Beach. La Source, the 'sister' to Le Sport in St. Lucia (which we LOVE) is in Grenada as well and offers daily spa treatments (included with the rate) besides the tons of other things they have. Both these properties are all inclusive, both have good food, but some folks don't like all inclusive. Spice Island is for families/couples, while LaSource is for adults (16+ most of the time).

LaLuna is very nice and 'island chic' in the fact that the decor/accommodations are minimalist; nicely done with attention to fitting in with nature rather than antiques and high end furnishings and such.

For the seclusion, little to no nite life and beautiful beaches, Grenada fits that bill. It takes a while to travel to, but certainly worth the trip.

I am interested in Grenada. How long is the destination? Is it the usual connection at San Juan to American Eagle? I would be leaving form JFK, please give details.... Thanks:>)

Thanks GM! Wow, now I don't know which hotel to stay at if we go to Grenada (which I think is high on my list after reading these, and other posts)! Spa treatments included in the package? Um, I like spa treatments! This is going to be difficult.

Karen - I'm right there with you - how do you get there is right??? How long?
When we went to Young Island, we went via Barbados. The trip didn't seem that long - but maybe that was because I was excited!

We leave from JFK also, and Air Jamaica goes to Grenada with a stopover in Montego Bay AND...another island...forget which..sorry.
